Gett Off (Housestyle) isn't too bad either IMHO.
I don't know why he has not quite got it right (if indeed he IS trying to achieve a Dance/Techno/House style song). I am not a lover of that type of music anyway, Prince's more usual style of music is danceable anyway. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I agree with that. I too, never understood why do they sound so horrible: on one side it's the lack of analog synths: digital synths often give you that "plastic" sound, but only if you're not capable of editing sounds!!! There's one song I once heard on the radio - it has a drum'n bass groove which is not bad; pity the lyrics rhithm(spelling?) doesn't match the groove at all...anyone knows the title??? "No one plays the clarinet the way U play my heart"

I my opinion, Loose! doesn't sound plastic. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think the words above come from people who don't listen to electronic music in general. It's actually a bit frustrating reading stuff like this.
"The man has some serious equipment, right?". I don't know how to take all this and in what context but let me just say that a synth is a synth. If they sound plastic to you no amount of money invested sound is going to improve the results on your own behalf. Let's just say that all respectable dance music sounds plastic as well then.

I totally agree with IstenSzek.
Ive always considered Emancipation CD#3 a very poor album. Just like IstenSzek said, those "modern" dance tracks have always sounded outdated. It cant be on purpose. Btw, i do listen a lot to dance/ambient/whatever music. ********************************************

New World is a great example of this. I think "Everyday Is A Winding Road" is pretty bad, too.
Maybe, Prince wants give his dance songs the same "timeless" feel of this other music, so he doesn't want to use too many contempory or cutting edge sounds, fearing they might sound outdated in a couple years. In the process, some of the dance oriented songs sound tired straight out the gate.

he used a couple prodigy samples in the "acid guitar remix" of "loose!" listen closely in the background about 7 seconds in. that loop is from... shit, i can't remember. its on "music for the jilted generation" though. i'm sure of that. its simple..prince is out of touch with modern sounds...the beat has to come from within to not sound generic...and when it comes to the underground beat, well...prince is too out of touch.
now, GreenVelvet on the other hand has been creating pure *FUNK* for the new breeds and integrates elements of house, trance, jungle and pop...and it works!!! works my ass OVA!!!

I'm surprised that "Sleep Around" isn't on the the plastic song list. What an irritating song. I actually like Human Body and New World doesn't bug me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think it's cool because I believe some of these mixes were done at the Park for Friday Night dance parties.
I believe Human Body, and New World, and other dance songs were done as mixes for people to have a good time and dance. This way everyone gets a taste of the sound at these intimate dance parties that have taken place. Fun!

Prince should stop trying to do these dance tracks. He doesn't understand house. Like someone said, they sound *very*...cheesy. Like what happened with rap, it's another example of him trying unsuccessfully to follow trends instead of set them. It's a shame.

Alright, I agree with everything you just said it's just that I personally don't have a problem with that slightly out off touch with techno -feel, and certainly a lot of techno/electro -artists use similiar soundscapes and ideas. And furthermore, they are some of the most respected artists out there. Actually I see it this way: if "Controversy" and "1999" were in a way a slight dodgier version of typical funk - you know "cardboard box music" - then he did the same thing with house on "The Human Body". But I don't see the whining about "New World" it isn't a house or a typical dance track. It's more of a electrofunk cut (and a brilliant one might I add), and more akin to his earlier albums than to any of the current musical styles back in 1996. Of course, he seemed to be some of the first digital analog modelling synths that were popularized back in the day even on that cut too. But the structure and the form of "Ne World" definitely isn't house! ... But then again I actually personally dislike "Everyday Is A Winding Road" too. The "Beautiful" remix of "TMBGITW" I've always been able to dig though.

Yes, but It's strange that he tried that sound without evidently knowing anything about it. I think It's a pity though, because I think he could have done great stuff. "No one plays the clarinet the way U play my heart"
