I think he plays this now on every TV appearance, and it's so dated. On the other hand "1999" is still relevant today with the talk of the end of the world and "everyone's got a bomb" but he doesn't play it.

I vote for bringing back "1999" and retire "Let's Go crazy" and only play "Purple Rain" on big emotional nights, not at in-stores!

From a hardcore fan's point of view, yeah, it probably is over-played. But you got to remember that the majority of people who go the concerts are just casual or ex-Purple Rain fans - and that's what they want to hear. I don't mind him playing it, as long as the tour is not just another "hits" tour.

Let's Go Crazy is one of the greatest songs of all time by any artist.
That shit is like the Star Spangled Banner it will never go out of style.

I think instead of retiring it or reducing it to a snippet he needs to play the "Special Dance Mix" version with the full-length intro and the break-down in the middle.

No "Let's go crazy" shouldnt be retired because he can always play a killer guitar solo.

Well he has announced he's retiring that along with all of his old hits on multiple occasions, usually to promote an upcoming tour that will be our last chance to hear them.

I don't necessarily think he should ever officially retire any songs, but it would be nice to hear some alternate songs; "Let's Go Crazy" and "Kiss" are not the only hits that the mainstream public remember. Feels a little lazy. How much fun would it be to hear "I Wanna Be Your Lover" or "7" or "When Doves Cry" with updated arrangements... not to mention that "Little Red Corvette" would get a mainstream reaction far greater than "Let's Go Crazy"... he hasn't played that on TV in... since when?

i would love to see that song retired, but people go nuts when they hear that opening note on the organ.

I think he should retire most of the hits. It kinda pissed me off in Rolling Stone reading that highlights of the Tower show were PR & LGC.

At least if he does hits he should, instead of medleys, do stuff like a full When Doves Cry. Without the pre recorded stuff in the background. A full version with guitar, lyrics, real drums, etc

You are right about that. Makes you think it is a boring song, even though it is a classic, he just plays it to death. Give it about a five year break.

I luv LGC....I listen to it everyday when some of America's special children (my young soldiers) do things that make me wanna get in that truck....

Lets Go crazy is a grrreat song , the version hes been playing live for the last ... ooh 10 years is weak though , theres a lot more to the song than the 1st 2 lines and the solo at the end , shame he ignores it when playing it in concert though
