I agree! I've heard Prince perform this song on several tours and the live versions can NEVER top the original studio version. In fact, when Prince adds horns to this song in concert,he ruins the sound of it.

I think that KISS and U GOT THE LOOK are great live, I heard them on the RAVE UN2 THE YEAR 2000 and they sounded awesome

However a song that doesnt work live is GETT OFF

I guess you didn't see the version he did on Arsenio. Loved it.

Not sure if he's ever performed it live, but I think Shockadelica will never work live (I guess it doesn't exactly lend itself to live performance either).

The Future as the first song on the Nude Tour. Terrible choice !!

Alphabet St. is another surprisingly stiff case when played true to the original version. The different stretched-out versions are much better. Oh, and don't even mention "Kiss" live...

The Nude tour? THat reminds me I gotta get some boot from that tour, cause methinks I don't have a single one!

You know it's KISS & BATDANCE. They are horrible live.

Damn man there are so many quality soundboards of this tour and you don't have any. You really better get on that.

Kiss is a crap shoot live. Sometimes a different arrangement makes it work, but usually not.

As far as "Cream" goes. The Arsenio performance was better than the studio version IMO. Plus the image of him chewing gum while he performs it cracks me up every time. Too cocky.

I'll go with When Doves Cry. I love the song but when it is live, the beggining sounds so 'tinny'.

Dunno, at least the gig with Miles that had "U Got The Look" worked just fine to me.

Yeah, Kiss and Alphabet St. and TMBGITW are shyte live. Most live recordings I've heard of I Wanna Be Your Lover are also pretty bad. Seems that one's really hard to sing.

And somehow he doesn't manage to get 1999 right, either. Most of the time the ppl posin as Jill/Lisa and Dez just get it all twisted and off-key. (Horror example: Wendy on the 1986 tour. Mf's doing background and shouting out "Party!" sounding like she's giving birth on stage)

Family Name is bad when he keeps changing from falsetto to his "normal" voice and back. But then that's no hit.

On the other hand, I think Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad and The Cross and Cream and ICNTTPOYM are maybe better live than on record.
