Even though I consider myself to be one of his biggest fans - theres still a couple of albums I havnt got

These are

The rainbow children
one nite alone
New power soul

shame on me!

can someone give me a rating on these albums before I buy??

I saw the rainbow children today but didnt buy cos Im skintypoos at the mo...

best one: The Rainbow Children. not just out of these three, but imo
a top 5 album in regards to his entire output.

second: One Nite Alone - that is, if you are talking about the solo
vocal and piano studio album and not the double live album.

NPS: 90% of people on here will tell you it's his worst album but i
beg to differ. it's not that good, no but it does have some of his
more memorable latter 90's tunes. the missers stink bigtime but the
handfull of hits are very good indeed.


if it were me, suppose i lost all three and i had to replace them
one by one. i would get TRC first. i would get it three times lol

NPS : you oughta try to pick this one up for like 1.99 .... it really is not that good --- contains "the one" which is ok listening ... any other track that is/was decent on this album --- what done BETTER -LIVE ...

the rainbow children : "some interesting stuff" --- pretty much sums up Snidelys opinion of this album ... i really do NOT know where my copy of this is ... but .... after 3-4 yrs of not really listening to it ... i probably could dust it off ... for a couple songs ...

one night alone live .... well ... saved the best for last .... to me - Prince has always been better LIVE ... (thinking about that .... okk ... except for a couple tracks like 1999 , when doves cry ... etc ) .... i enjoyed this "live" album ... there are several tracks which .... done live --- stand OUT .... in my opinion --- "strange relationship" is the highlight ...

Boris, so are u saying I should just go for the downloads on the club for ona and ona live

Also related to a thread I just started, should i buy ona AND ona live? What about the 2 rave versions? would i miss anything if I got un2 and not in2?

If you had a choice and purchased 'Rave Un2' and not 'Rave In2', I'd suggest you'd have purchased the wrong one of the two - overall, I prefer the versions on 'Rave In2' although I wouldn't rank it as a favourite album amongst the whole back catalogue. And you'd certainly be missing one version of 'Beautiful Strange' which song features on 'Rave In2' and not 'Rave Un2', and is one of his best from around this period.

As for "ONA" and "ONA...Live!", the former is relatively rare and you'd expect to pay considerably more for an original CD than the download, so the Club download is a decent price in my view. Once you've heard the donload, then you might consider how much you'd want to pay for an original CD - probably from the likes of Ebay.

The 'Live' 3 CD box set should still be available in retail in places, so it's down to how much you want to pay for the quality and packaging.

The Rainbow Children is a masterpiece! Top 3 Prince Record!

One nite alone is a great cd, and one which will b overlooked in years to come because of its limited release. Its such a great cd tho.

New Power Soul is alright if u like funky stuff, but it doesnt have much more styles on it and most of the tracks are crap!

I beg of you not to get New Power Soul - it's dreadful.. If you do - pay as little as possible for it. There's a reason the price is so low! (Although he does look sexy as hell on that cover. )

The Rainbow Children: 4,5 out of 5
ONA Live: 4 out of 5
New Power Soul: 3 out of 5 (very underrated over here!)

rainbow...buy herbie hancocks album headhunters instead...
ONA live...buy the alladin dvd instead
NPS ...waste your money if u want to...

Just buy them all and then point at laugh at people whose opinions of the album differ wildly to yours in the future . oh btw I'd give them
