According to wikipedia.org http://en.wikipedia.org/w...et's_Work: "Let's Work" was the second single to the 1981's Controversy album by Prince. The song's originates from a dance called "the Walk" that local kids were doing at the time in Minneapolis. Prince responded quickly with a track called "Let's Walk" and wished to quickly release it as a single. Warner Bros. refused and a disappointed Prince did not include the song on Controversy, saying the phase had past. The song was updated with new lyrics and possibly new music and became "Let's Work" — one of his most popular dance numbers to date. The song features a shouted title throughout the song and relies heavily on keyboards to create a sexy groove in the verses and quick solos for the choruses. The lyrics are a tease, equating "working" with having sex. The song was backed with "Ronnie, Talk To Russia", which precedes it on the Controversy album. I just didn't want anyone thinking I was the only one who was misinformed (aka on crack.) honey, it just sounded funny. Not clowning YOU per se'. Not exactly on topic, but since I'm listening to that "Dance Remix" off of "Ultimate" like insane I'd love to know if that's Prince on bass or some uncredited (at least on the album) genius. Any details on who's playing? Thanks!

speaking if uncredited bass genius on prince songs... did anyone else notices that even in 2006 the 'typo' that left Andre uncredited for bass and a backing vocal on "I wanna be your lover" has yet to be corrected? Oh maybe... it was "why do you wanna treat me so bad" i will check when in a bit! [Edited 4/7/06 12:45pm]

I remember back in the day (long before "Let's Work" was even released) DJs would shout "Aw, work it y'all!" "Work!" "Work!" The people on the dance floor would dance harder each time he shouted. I never understood why Prince changed the title on his last tour to "Let's Rock". Hell, that's no different. I've heard people say "Let's Rock" when they are ready to have sex just like they have said "Let's Work". . . [Edited 4/7/06 7:12am] Now I know I was drunk at the concert in Bosier City, LA but I hope I wasn't that drunk. I could have sworn I heard him say "Let's Rock". Also, I remember reading a tracklist here on the org by an orger that went to the Biloxi, MS show and they had "Let's Rock" listed. I started to go to that show myself but I had to work that night and couldn't get out of it. The orger also said it was drizzling rain that night...and it was. . . For instance, a woman on the dance floor and someone hollers...."work bitch"...or an entertainer playing bass really good and someone hollering...."you better work that bass". The word "work" has always been used in more than one way....the same as the words...."gettin' off". I see no reason why Prince should object to it being on a compilation even if he originally meant it in another way. Andy is a four letter word.

That mix is what makes me really want this set more than anything....I have all the other songs and the other mixes don't interest me all that much. It's not that great of collection but "Let's Work" might be my favorite Prince song so I can't wait to hear this mix...It better not be taken off if they ever do get to releasing it!

Yeah I was hyped that this was going to be on it. His real first offical remix that reworked and added on. The prototype for the proverbial/quiessential Prince Mix..like another song added on. The gathering to the chaos with the guitar janglin to the "controversy" and cheers sample and then the hot dick and bubble gum cheers parts! but though this is the stellar cut, the other remixes are gravy like a mutha!

It said "Erotic City" was to be replaced by "Let's Work." Do you know if this is means it will feature the Dance Mix of "Let's Work"? (I've never heard it and would certainly like to!)

Looking at where Prince is now- spriritually, I would say that Prince is really trying to preach monogamy- in a subtle way... Prince has always preached monogamy even if his love life doesn't reflect it. He sang about it in the past, but his musical approach to the subject is different now.... The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

You realize it's not available? There are a lot of threads on this. In a nutshell, the release was supposed to be cancelled but a lot of stores already had the disc out so they stocked it so some lucky fans were able to grab a copy. It might not even get released at all or the release will be changed. There is a lot of speculation about why the release was cancalled (although some say "delayed"). And most have to do with Prince....Some say he was involved with this release but didn't want any dirty tracks (the ones that were intaily on there like "Erotic City" went missing) while there is also the theory that Prince didn't want it to be released so close to his album (it was supposed to be released the week before and yes, this could be overkill or casue confusion for fans). Recently I heard he didn't like the record cover. NOw if this isn't news to you, sorry. You can probably find it online but it will cost you.

Actually, the song originates from a dance called The Rock.It was a popular dance in 1979 during the disco era,and Prince wrote a song about it. [Edited 4/10/06 6:19am]
