Prince Ultimate - Let's Work Dance Remix?? I read in the Minneapolis Star & Trib that (3) songs from Ultimate was put on hold as, per Prince's request, (3) 'dirty' songs were being replaced with (3) 'cleaner' songs. It said "Erotic City" was to be replaced by "Let's Work." Do you know if this is means it will feature the Dance Mix of "Let's Work"? (I've never heard it and would certainly like to!)

I remember back in the day (long before "Let's Work" was even released) DJs would shout "Aw, work it y'all!" "Work!" "Work!" The people on the dance floor would dance harder each time he shouted. I never understood why Prince changed the title on his last tour to "Let's Rock". Hell, that's no different. How stupid.
'Lets Work' is just as 'rude' as 'Erotic City', it just doesn't contain swear words. Seems as though it's swear words and not the actual meaning that matters. Afterall, 'Incense And Candles' is hardly 'clean; is it? | |

But if he did there's a good reason for it - it was originally going to be 'Let's Rock' - The Vault: Prince also recorded a song called 'Let's Rock' inspird by a dance he had seen kids doing in clubs. He wanted to release the song right away as a one-off single, but the idea was rejected after discussions with Warner Bros. By the time it could be released, Prince thought the moment had long passed so he re-titled th song 'Let's Work' and re-recorded it for Controversy. Prince has later referred to the disagreement over 'Let's Rock' as one of the first times he felt his creative freedom was being restricted. | |

Hmm, according to the Mpls newspaper (and, I believe, Tangarene17's first post re this album) it was - but hell,the Star & Trib employs Billy Jack so, clearly, they can't be trusted. Now, can someone clear something up for me. Apparently the original title of this song was "Let's Walk" as there was a dance craze called The Walk goin' down in MPLS at the time of this song's creating. Now, can someone clear something up for me. Apparently the original title of this song was "Let's Walk" as there was a dance craze called The Walk goin' down in MPLS at the time of this song's creating. WB didn't like the idea so P changed it to "Let's Work." Am I on crack? As has been said, there was initially a different tracklist leaked which included Erotic City and a slightly different configuration, but that was changed (supposedly at Prince's request) before it ever went to press. Any website working off the old tracklist is working off out-of-date information. As for 'Let's Walk' being a dance, see my post above, it was 'Let's Rock'. | |

The song's originates from a dance called "the Walk" that local kids were doing at the time in Minneapolis. Prince responded quickly with a track called "Let's Walk" and wished to quickly release it as a single. Warner Bros. refused and a disappointed Prince did not include the song on Controversy, saying the phase had past. The song was updated with new lyrics and possibly new music and became "Let's Work" — one of his most popular dance numbers to date. The song features a shouted title throughout the song and relies heavily on keyboards to create a sexy groove in the verses and quick solos for the choruses. The lyrics are a tease, equating "working" with having sex. The song was backed with "Ronnie, Talk To Russia", which precedes it on the Controversy album.
