why do they couple the two best songs on the album
as a double a-side single?

doube a-sides are always confusing and overlooked,
plus it relegates the chances of a cool b-side all
the way back to the end of the fucking line

sad

Prince doesn't do b-sides no more. not with any conviction it seems, pretty sad. It's certainly a long time since he did all those great maxi singles with guaranteed genius on both sides.

sigh

It's called clever marketing. Fury has the potential to be a big Adult Contemporary hit, whereas Love has the potential to be a big R&B Hit. R&B radio would NEVER touch "Fury." It is too much of a rock record for them, however, an audience that likes U2, Bon Jovi, and Maroon 5 would love Fury. Think about it?!?!?! TRUE Prince fans are accustomed to his mix of pop, rock and r&b, but your average radio listener isn't. Many of them just re-discovered Prince during the Musicology tour. He does not need to run them away again.

Rockability

I disagree. I think Prince won't have a hit period unless he starts it off with Lolita. Its all about momentum. Actually, he will have a hit in Lolita. The question is whether he will have one after it. He should absolutely release it now.

Although I agree Fury should be the #1 bomb hit, it will just get looked over without anyone waiting for the next hit. If he starts it with Lolita and it gets in the top 10 which it should, then Love or The Word will propel him forward and Fury would be perfect.

lol, i don't know why we all get drawn into this EVERY TIME. Its basically all of us just listing either our favourite song or a song we think is chart friendly that Prince "should" release, like he doesn't have a bunch of advisors and men at universal telling him what would be the best songs to release.

ultimately there isn't a song prince could really release on this record thats an 'in the bag' release, simply because he released black sweat and that didn't do much, and how popular is that song (on the whole) among prince fans.

sadly for prince there isn't much of a gaurentee when it comes to having hits anymore.

that said, he SHOULD be releasing Fury! bwahaha. with a bside, and so on! and so forth! smile

They were "virtual b-sides" for download at NPGMC:

United States of Division
Silver Tongue
Magnificent

Nice trax IMHO
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I don't really count those as true b-sides songs, but thanks for the answer.

yeah, i know what you mean. altho, they were "officially" promoted
as being the b-sides to those singles.

altho why he would do a thing like that is beyond me since he has
the actual singles in the stores and imo wastes an opportunity to
have the songs released in perfect quality on those.

having said that, "United states of Division" was on the single of
Cinamon Girl here in Europe.

I just wish "Magnificent" had gotten a release on the Musicology
cd single as well.

But yeah, the days of the cool maxi singles that had extendeds and
b-sides that were as good as the album material or even better are
long gone it seems

I think the last true b-side song is rock and roll is alive from the gold single.

Let's be honest---- A b-side has always been a bonus song to fill up the other side of a record or tape. The songs are , in a way, even more of a bonus on a CD format. I think that United States of Division, Silver Tongue, and Magnificent can just as justifiably be called "b-sides" as Erotic City, etc.
