Well, maybe if Oprah interviewed him again, he might jump on the couch and proclaim his love for Mani on punlic TV. I mean Tom Cruise and he almost killed Oprah. Soul mate-One of two persons compatible with each other in disposition, point of view, or sensitivity.

I think it had just happened, and that's why I always give Mayte more credit that other people want to give her. Say what you want about that woman, but she was strong as hell to go on a press junket and act like nothing was wrong, when a child she had carried for nine months had just died. They did an interview with Gumbel where she almost broke face, but she kept it together. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

RE GUMBLEshe looked to me like she wanted to scream " no we lost our baby and it's killing me!" very painful to watch and gives a great deal of insight into how much reality prince can and cannot handle. as i write this i'm recalling all that stuff in Possessed that anna garcia had said about him wanting to live in a prentend world where nothing was ever wrong . .. Well, now I've seen the interview up to the "Sleep Around" performance. I dunno, but I don't think the interview itself is bad (apart from Oprah who is unusually unprofessional, for some reason). As he almost never does one and so I've never seen him just talk I like watching it. And he sems so in love! That's the hard part of it. They just lost a baby and pretend as if nothing happened, say it's alright, and then they also say that they'll be together forever. [Edited 4/7/06 9:25am]

I think Oprah doesnt refer to it, because it was a alienated, weird experience.
Weird in the way of: Prince has lost his child, and is 'acting' like nothing happened, Prince is also seeming to be distached from his real feelings,'playing' the aimable superstar when the tradegy and pain is obviously lurking underneath. In my opinion its a very uncomfortable thing to watch, one of the most confusing things i ever saw on television: a star 'acting up' to appear nice and responsible, vaguely talking about the second persona he did find with the help of a a psychologist / psychiatric. A detached, surreal experience, that expresses my feelings about Prince being 'lost' in the second halve of the nineties.

I new this before... But Mayte was only 16 when Prince fell in love with her at first sight. That's a little...I dunno...creepy I'm open minded and a hopeless romantic, but still... Well, they were lucky and a great couple with lots of so it was a good and real thing.
What do you think about that? Prince being in his early 30s and Mayte a 16 year old girl.

Anx said: i think the oprah interview was really awkward. i think it was intended to show off prince's newfound prosperity as a husband and father, and it was also supposed to promote his first album as a "free" artist, "emancipation", a/k/a "the album he was born to make".
by the time of the actual interview, all of that appeared to have blown up in his face, and it appears they were left with the task of quickly putting together some damage control for the sake of salvaging some publicity for the album. in my opinion, that episode is very sad, and more than a little awkward in places. i think it's a very insightful interview, perhaps not in ways prince or oprah might have intended. it shows a really sad, introspective side of prince. I downloaded the interview once to watch. That thing's so depressing, I had to delete it right after I saw it. Once was enough for me. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I'm a mom and can only wonder what Prince and Mayte were going through at the that time... it is basically irrelevant but 3121 is the first piece of music where I feel that Prince is really enjoying himself at music since that time, this I know is pure speculation but to me it comes across that he is happy with himself at last. I don't think he was in any way ready for what happened with baby Gregory, no one on this earth could be, but if he has found his funk again I am just more than happy for it.

Oh I agree!! and I really do hope Prince and Mani can get it together and have a baby of their own. If I saw P on the street, after I picked myself up, I would tell him, to about it and try again to have a baby. It is THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD (being a parent). It is a shame that he for whatever reason, has not tried again. If it were me, we would've have already had a baby wayyy before Mani arrived in Minnie. Makes me wonder if there is a medical reason for no more kids. if so.... "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

B ...no...that's what i was saying...the baby had just died before the taping of the paisley park interview, which makes it really painful to watch. you can see the truth in his eyes when he says "it's all good". it's really sad. he did keep the public far away from his grief and his loss, though i do remember when i saw him on the jam of the year tour at jones beach, he went into a little speech about loss, and about things not turning out the way you want them to. he was very vague as to what he was talking about, but i think we all knew.

So sad. I could only try to imagine what it was like to talk about my deceased child and sort of listening to my own voice and emotionally recoiling in grief to even hear those words. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

I loved the interview when it first aired, but once we all learned what was really going on at that time it is a little sad and creepy to watch back. Watch his face very closely when Oprah asks him about the baby, right before he says "Our family exists..etc.". It's heart-wrenching now. Back then, I didn't notice it. This guy was in shock.
