Prince on movies.com...

Camp classics, crap '80s train wrecks, cult films — we line up the lamest, yet greatest films you've ever seen.

8. Purple Rain

It's so bad: Prince may be a musical legend, but he's certainly no great actor; he barely manages to play himself with any believability. Mostly he just struts, pouts and poses. Then again, even Lawrence Olivier would have trouble selling that whole Lake Minnetonka scene.
It's so good: While lines such as "Your lips would make a lollipop too happy" might be wince-worthy, this isn't a flick you watch for the dialogue. Turn off your brain and just enjoy the nonstop musical numbers and the Purple One's over-the-top costumes and sexuality. Who knew a 5-foot-tall guy in a ruffled blouse could be so hot?

Why you've gotta see it: Let me count the reasons, starting with "Let's Go Crazy," "Jungle Love," "Darling Nikki" and "When Doves Cry." Oh, and don't forget "I Would Die 4 U." Purple Rain absolutely earned its Oscar for Best Musical Score.
