"Computer Blue" definitely ended too soon on record. The original much longer version is one of my all-time favorite Prince songs -- top 5 anyway. It's just too bad that I had to wait so long to finally hear it.

I agree that Digital Garden ended too soon. It leaves me wanting to hear so much more everytime I listen to it.

Yes I agree. I also wish I could get a copy of "Father's Song" by itself on piano like it was played in the movie. I have wanted this since the movie came out. What's weird is that the sheet music to Father's Song is included in the Purple Rain book, but the song was never released even as a B-side.

As far as songs that end too soon "Pop Life" on record (love the 12") and maybe "I Would Die 4 U" It's such an upbeat positive song I would love to hear an extended version and not the new techno mix. To me it's one of Prince's underrated perfect pop 3 minute hits.

American, Pop Life, 17 Days and Strange Relationship all end way too soon on LP for me.

DMSR, have you heard the official live long version of I Would Die 4U? It's truly excellent! Sounds like there is no overdubbing at all, though it may have some. A live jam from the days of The Revolution. Look out for it.

Oh yea, I have that actually! Forgot about it, yea it is pretty good (lots of Sheila E) but I would like to hear an extended studio version too.

"Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do". After that bass lick I really wanted and expected him to rip into an amazing guitar solo. Dunno if he does it on the remix album cause I haven't heard it.

Eye Like Funky Music- The song ends in about 2 1/2 minutes, and then is ruined by Doug E (Another of Prince's washed up friends). Doug E Was great back in the day, but this song could've had a funky guitar solo, a bass attack, a great drum solo(without Kirk), or something...

Jughead-actually, this song should've been shorter, like never been written, perhaps. If it had to exist, it shoulda ended before the brilliant "Mr Money Minder" speech. Prince's percursor to the "Slave" period. Of course as wonderful as Prince is, he is a "Mr Money Minder" himself, with ticket prices so high, you get a bunch of yuppies, or poor people like me who spend everything they have on him..in the concert, and less of his original fan base(Yes, I must be a moron). For someone who wants to be "Number One At The Bank," he sure coulda sold a little more of his back catalog, or a live album here or there, but nope!

Baby I'm A Star(Purple Rain Tour)...Just listen to the Atlanta bootleg on City Lights, it's only like 24 minutes. At one point, he says "Give me two," Give me three, etc...After saying like Give me fourteen, and having to hear poor Bobby Z pound the drums 14 times, Prince then asks "Give me 112!" He then states "Just Kidding," but most listeners are already too bored to laugh at the joke. All this time spent on repeating the same groove over and over and over, he could've sang Erotic City, 17 Days, THE ENTIRE LIVE VERSION OF "FREE," and perhaps the unreleased at the time, "Raspberry Beret," which would've given AIWIAD some early hype(He actually did perform this at the LA Purple Rain show, which is a nice boot to get.)

OK, so I answered this question in reverse, as Prince usually is guilty of too much, rather than too little. Like 3 Chains of Bohemian Rhapsody Gold...great song, but it was done before.

Tangerine would be my serious reply. It was great to hear this live at the Celebration. Empty Room could've been extended as well, as long as it was music, and not a Tony M or Shanka Danka Doo Scrappy Rap.

Since sarcasm is flowing here, perhaps "IT's Gonna Be a Long, Long, Long, Extended Beautiful Night," could've been a little longer...to this day, the movie masterpiece SOTT would've been even more unbelievable, if this long party groove would've been omitted for Strange Relationship, and Dorothy Parker, which BOTH would've fit without the Long Waste of space. Now don't get me wrong, Beautiful Night would've been a great bonus on a 12 inch single, but songs like Crystal Ball, Old Friends 4 Sale, and Dream Factory were stuck in the vault...for that... sad

Ok, one more serious answer. Something In The Water might've been cool with an extended 9 minute version with some more of his weird stuff from that period, a screaming guitar part, some more haunting synth parts, and maybe some more of Prince's weird screaming. Despite all the faults I point out, it's songs like this, that make up for most of the mistakes. Prince is still hands down the best, and although I am quick to point out his mistakes, NOBODY can come close to his level of material...Stevie Wonder and U2 combined might be close, but if I was gonna be stranded on an Island one day, I'd take all my Prince stuff, and nothing else, rather than Everything else with NO Prince stuff...if that was the choice. Shut Up ALREADY, DAMN! This has got to be the longest post I have ever typed, and it doesn't even have much worth posting in here. smile

'digital garden' just ends to abrupt.

'joy in repetition'. this one is completely finished, i know. i just get such a great feeling when i hear it (especially the version with the drum intro) and i want to stretch that feeling. so i've always wished for a 'purple rain' ending here. you know the strings in the end. like that only longer. it could work i tell you!

I agree with many of the above, especially The Truth - I can never relax into the song, although this may have to do with loving it too much. Another on that CD that leaves me in a similar state is Come Back, but I guess that is quite fitting considering the nature of the song.

Ýou are right...´Sexy Dancer´ ´s extended version is a lot better. ´Billy Jack Bitch´ ´s full version is very interesting too.
But IMO, I think most of ´The Vault´ album ended too soon. If Prince included ´I´ll do anything´ and ´I cant love u anymore´ it would have been a lot better. And most of the songs are very short. ´My little pill´ ends just when P was starting to do something very interesting on the piano...

Come On - that is some all night funk groove that just doesnt get old

Bambi - should have at least 5 minutes more guitar solo

Dinner with Delores - probably the most underrated Prince song ever; a masterful peice of pop genius
