That SNL performance was positively electric, and folks on message boards not related to Prince at all were buzzing about it. As a result, "Fury" seems like the best choice for a single as through word of mouth and the SNL performance, it already has endeared itself to non-fans. What You fail to realize is that the studio version is nothing like the "live" version which benefited from an amazing performance. If he were to re-record this track w/ a band for a "fuller" sound then maybe but as the track stands now it's a statue compared to the SNL version. What YOU fail to realise is that the 4th single from the Sign O The Times album was the album version of I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, that had a live version released as the video. The single went top ten. This CAN be done again. He could easily release the album version of Fury as the next single, have a ballsy live guitar version as the released video (maybe that 'perfect' SNL version, depending on ownership of the clip) and have that live video version on the released single as a 'b-side' (both the audio and video of it). This way radio and the general buying public get to have both versions on the cd single, and can play whichever they choose. Rock radio and rock fans will then have an ass-kicking rock version to play, and may even come around to the softer album version. A win-win all around. .

If this gets done then I'm all for "Fury" being released...But only if there is some version with a heavier guitar take/or video...The album version is cool...for an album version, NOT A SINGLE....I still say "Lolita" would be the right choice; the rock crowd is a bit more Hawthorne Heights, American Rejects and Yellow Card than "Fury"....Again, if the video shows a live version with more guitar I'm all for it...Otherwise, leave it as a fun album cut....

Now i would love it if i was wrong, but I don't think its going to happen Sad but true. But stranger things have happened.

In the UK, Lolita is the only track which would make a good single. I think the kooky funkiness of it would go down well. Fury doesn't stand a chance in my opinion. I'm testing postive 4 the funk

Alltough i like Fury, i dont think it will make a hit.
See what happened to Cinnamon girl (another pop / rock song released as a single): despite the row the video of this song created it didnt became a hit anywere in the world. Better singles? - Love? Nice, but maybe to eighties sounding. - The Word. to subdued, not spontanous enough for a dance track - Incens and candles, will probably received well by the 'urbans', but will only be a minor hit in the pop charts Surprise hit? - Get on the boat: catchy, uplifting, could be a hit in europe where people age 20 - 40 often like this kind of organic soulfunk (despite the lyrics), especially when its accompanied by a colourfull, vivid video. Best chances: - Lolita has 'hit' written all over it: it has a catchy chorus, a certain fun / camp quality that will do good at dance parties. It might be shallow and shortsighted sometimes, but the general public likes to singalong to a chorus, i mean: the next weeks i have heard Kiss more times on the radio then Black Sweat, the difference: the first one being a song with a catchy chorus, the second one a jam, without a chorus...

On a local rock radiostation (Belgium) they're promoting 3121 using bits of Black Sweat and Fury... could that be an indication of the next single?

yeah, the sticker on the album here in holland says: including BLACK SWEAT BEAUTIFUL, LOVED & BLESSED FURY TE AMO CORAZON usually these kinda stickers are an indication of what is going to be released as future singles. having said that, the album contained a sticker that mentioned "The Continental" and sadly that was nixed as a single in favor of the rather boring and non-hit "The Morning Papers". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I don't mind Fury being a single but I hope that there's a way for the SNL performance to come out in some way shape or form. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Great song but not for radio. Lolita is the only shot for a radio hit from 3121. All momentum will be lost with this single. I don't agree. The album seems full of singles. I agree. How many weeks has it been? And this CD is still in my car on play. Every week, I find a different song to love. This week it's The Dance, even though I was originally lukewarm to it. I truly believe there is no bad song on this CD.
