When does being a fan go too far?

There are some people might own all his music (I'm working at it). Some might have more than a handful of bootlegs. Also, there are those fans with more knowledge/trivia than 90% of the org combined. But when does being a hardcore fan go too far? Is it making nearly every statement that comes from ones mouth about the man, or something far more dirsturbing?

It goes too far when you sacrifice your own individuality and style in favor of a celebrity's.

Being a hardcore fan is fine, but I don't particularly like it when some hardcore fans criticize other fans for initiating bitch-threads. It's like, come on: Even if the bitching is the fickle/petty/hard-too-please type of bitching, just let them share their opinions, for Chrissakes. lol If you want to disagree with them, fine, and if you want to even debate with them/prove them wrong about something, that's fine, too, but outright implying/saying that they "complain too much" or "they should move on" is just annoying.

In other words, why complain about the complainers? Ignore 'em! biggrin

I'd say dressing like him and going to more than what..7 shows during the tour. I was talking to someone during the last tour and he said he went to at least 15 of the shows. Now granted...Prince did come out here 2ce and held like 3 night shows ..but this guy went to Reno, San Diego, LA...pretty much anywhere on the West Coast.

One fan I asked how many times he'd seen P...he looked at me and said way too many. I am guessing it was in the 20's or 30's for Musicology Tour alone. Let's see 75 X 20 is 3000. and That's is he paid regular price. That's a lot!

When the lust for his product out shines the light in your own life, that is too far gone.

I ain't a fan, I have better things to do with my time.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

It’s really sad for me when a fan goes from a admirer to a stalker. I get these calls all the time from celebrities. Think about how it would feel to lose you freedoms. How it would feel to have someone like myself follow you around, just because some wacko want leave you alone sad

There are a few people here on the org who disturb me. They seem to think they KNOW Prince and they even speak for him. That's dangerous. When you think you're in the same mental space with someone you haven't even met, you start feeling ownership, entitlement, like the two of you share a unique and special bond. It's pure delusion.

In fact, that's not limited to just celebrities. If you think you KNOW someone and somehow privy to their inner life without spending time with them in real life, you've already gone too far.

I've learned not to assume anything about a person other than what they show me.

Those are the worst and most potentially dangerous. Personally, I only want to get close enough to Prince from the safety of my seat.

Yeah, but I believe some fans take it too far when they literally raise their blood pressure in anger and hatred when Prince does not do what THEY want him to do. They can complain all they want but in they end, its Prince's choice and his life, not theirs.

I mean some people really get upset and carry that for over 10 years? I mean how pathetic is that? Don't you think that's a LOOOONG TIME?

i've known people who have honestly thought that certain decisions made by prince or npgmc were somehow personally directed at them as some kind of retaliation or something. i've known people who got way way WAY too delusional about their relationship to the man and his music.

i try to keep a balance. my apartment doesn't look like a prince museum, but i have all his albums and a big box of other audio/visual "treats". when i want a prince goodie, i get it. if i don't want something NPG is offering, i don't get it. when he's playing at a place i can get to, i try to go. i wouldn't go out of my way to go to a prince concert, unless it was part of a bigger vacation/travel plan, or unless i was invited, i suppose.

i consider myself a customer first and a fan second. prince the person is very private. i think he wants his fans to pay more attention to prince the product (ie, the music) and/or prince the brand name. and that's fine with me.

I think its OK to be a hardcore fan as long as youre not a threat to yourself/others or the man himself.Ive been a fan since day one,or "FOR YOU "for the newcomers out there. My place has a few prince items here and there(mainly because my fiance thinks hes fine) but it doesnt border stalker.I did frame the musicology tour book though, for her, thats hanging in our living room.Actually, it accentuates the furniture pretty nice! But anyways, praise the man if u wish,in a safe and healthy manner. After all, this a Prince site and we all on it are supposed to be fans, right? Peace and be wild!.....Ooops my bad!
