3121/Musicology mash-up? Ok first post here...I have been lurking for like 7 years (kinda creepy I know) so I figured it was about time I made a post.
Here's the premise...We all know Prince's catalogue has suffered some with inconsistency with the glut of material he has published (in my opinion), ok not until after he peaked in 1987. But he never stopped trying to put out as much material as he did during that time even if it wasn’t as frequently amazing as it was up to that point. I was thinking what a GREAT album Prince could have made if he had combined the best of Musicology/3121. Now I know this could be said for almost every stage of his career post Sign O' The Times, which I think would be great topics too! Think how great an album Graffiti Bridge paired with the best song of D&P's woulda been? Maybe I wouldn’t have had to skip Jughead so many times in my life! I like 3121 a lot, in the end there isn't a true skipper in the album. Even upon first listen TAC which I didn’t like as a single made a lot a sense and was appreciated by myself in the whole of the album. But even though I like pretty much all the songs some are a lot weaker than some of the other extremely strong songs on the album. Some of the weaker for me being, TAC, BLAB, Get on the Boat, and Black Sweat. And after a day of listening to 3121 I went back and listened to (after a long time!) Musicology all the way through. Its a lot better album than I originally remember. But it suffers to a much greater degree what make 3121 not a great Prince album. And I thought man what if the man just waited 24 months and edited out some of the stinkers like Life 'O' the Party and some of the weaker songs like BLAB off these two albums and released a truly great album that lived up to the proclamation that both these albums received: a true return to form for the once mighty Prince. I decided to go ahead with this thought and play it out as a playlist on my ipod: These are the rules 6 songs from 3121 and 6 from musicology. This was hard for me I like 3121 better but some like Musicology better. I tried to arrange the songs in a manner that flowed well and include songs that "worked" well together and for the most part they are my favorites. Even though The Dance is a fantastic song I didn’t think it fit as well as some other songs so in my fantasy world it would just have to be one of Princes classic killer B-sides. Here’s my play list: 1- 3121 2- Cinnamon Girl 3- Lolita 4- The Marry Kind 5- Love 6- Fury 7- Call My Name 8- A Million Days 9- The Word 10- If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life 11- Satisfied 12- Musicology I found that this mix really made me love these songs a lot more especially the songs from Musicology. It made those songs seem more relevant for whatever reason. I would like to see if this works for other people and what there mixes would be! ...up next Emancipation paired down to 12 songs LOL!

interesting combinations.
I see only 1 person has included Dear Mr Man in their playlist,i think its the best track on Musicology. But its also interesting to see that 2 people have included What Do You Want Me To Do.....i think that is the weakest track on Musicology. [Edited 4/4/06 6:08am] Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Whne did remixes become mashups? I like remixes better. Mashups sounds like mashed potatoes for infants.
