Does this mean H man(gotta love miles davis, if it truly is, it must be, its genius) and Red Riding Hood(great song) might not be the right names either? "Crucial" is the best. "Red Riding Hood" is actually "Can I Play With U?" and "The H Man" is actually "Amandla" by Miles Davis.

The version of JIR that was intended for Crystal Ball is the same as on GB. Even the outro/into from The Ball is left intact, IIRC.

Can anybody find the picture thread that someone did for this song a few years back?
It was easily one of the most thoughtful and inspired threads of this forum.

So loose and jazzy and uplifting (and still kinda dark). Really puts me in another placee everytime I hear it.

I've never heard it before, but those are great lyrics. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I must say, I like the lyric a lot more than I like the way the song sounds. "She made me glad to be a man"

This is also titled "Welcome To The Rat Race" and I always thought it was one of the WHOLE Revolution's better songs as well. Wish I had a cleaner copy. Hell..I wish Prince would have released this. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

Incorrectly, though. Interestingly, I remember Prince himself clearing this up, when he had a message posted on npgonlineltd.com that said how bootleggers got the title wrong.

OMG... I LOVE this track! Without a doubt, one of Prince's finest pieces of work. I am wondering just WHY this was never released. The "Dream Factory" sessions should've been commercially released. By far a definitive classic.

That wasn't the version on Crystal Ball, either, though. I know the one you are talking about, a stand alone version from before it was matched up with The Ball. I rather prefer the slow build-up of that version, as well.

Understandably, though, Prince didn't want to release tracks with a heavy Revolution/W&L influence.

An excellent song - im sure he does say "A picture of a woman with a dick in her hand".
I think its Prince's use of shock value, just as he shocked people on Darlin Nikki with 'masturbating with a magazine'. Remember this was when he wasn't shy about saying rude things. [Edited 4/6/06 14:03pm]

I think they both compliment each other so well Any Jazz impressario would be jealous of the wonderfully contructed composition of this song and how it is carried off. Lyrically it is Prince in genius mode 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Wasn't this one of the tracks wrote for some broadway play he was thinking of doing? Along with Girl O My Dreams ? Does the Dream Fatory cd have the best quality? Or is it better somewhere ?
