200 Balloons Driving home tonight, this track came on in the car ("shuffle" mode was in effect). Wow, I never appreciated this track, but it is damn funky and really got me hyped on the journey home. I was dancing to my doorstep.
"Who can stop 200 balloons? Nobody!" Even tho' it isn't on the BATMAN LP, it reminds me of the movie (I think cause P sampled it so much in 'Batdance'). Other tracks I don't often hear that had me groovin' in the car tonight was "ESCAPE" ("it's mo' hard to love than it is to hate!") and "HELLO" (this is a real grower - "we're against hungry children, our records stand tall!" Put 3121 down for a bit and put the back-catalogue on shuffle - there some real gems in there!

Funny how they are all from the b-sides. I like Hello and Escape a bit now though a didn't at first but 200 ballsups remains one of my least favourite tracks.

"Let's do it."
I love this track! Lyrically this track is all over the place and that's what makes it a blast. Plus that "Let's do it" that pops up every now and then just kills me. "200 Balloons" is simply a super-fun track. A good time song.

Well, 200 Balloons should remind you of Batman, it was the B-side to Batdance, and was one of the first tracks previewed for the film makers. It was intended to replace 'Baby I'm A Star' which was temporarily placed where 'Trust' eventually appears in the film - with the parade of balloons filled with the poisoned gas. Hence the title, 200 Balloons. But it was rejected for the movie.
Similarly, '1999' was temporarily placed where the Joker defaces the museum. Prince intended to replace this with 'Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic' - but that was rejected also, eventually being replaced by 'Partyman'. Probably why you can hear a bit of the 'Rave...' chant on the remix of Batdance. [Edited 4/3/06 17:15pm]
