Haven't Played 3121 in...

I am rounding up on a week now. Is there anyone else that has stopped playing that CD?
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Actually, I bought two. So I have one I need to rid myself of. I had thought about going up to one of those freaks that play their car radio too loudly and giving it to him.

Actually, if you have a friend in his/her 30s and is a big-time MJ fan who can't stand Prince (don't we all have a friend like that?), give it to that person and laugh.

As I have stated 3121 is getting worse with each listen for me which is a completely new experience for me with a Prince album. Typically I listen to a Prince album and I think it's okay and it grows on me with time but for this album I comletely love, love, loved it last Tuesday and by now I can't see what I saw as it is a completely flawed album. I am going to take a pretty long break and see how I feel fresh again.

i haven't been listening exclusively to any one album lately. mostly i've been rotating 3121 with the new goldfrapp album and the new grandaddy album.

I am really having trouble with this album.. which is an absolute first for me.. this never happens. Usually I play it and I'm like yeah it's Ok and then I am completely enraptured with it a couple of weeks later as I have discovered all the creativity by then..

But 3121 shrug I don't know.. am going to try again next week

The people who are having trouble with 3121 have a not-so-rare disorder amongst most Prince fans. It's called "I can't believe he just made an album for kicks-itis." Basically, the person with this disorder simply can't wrap their brain around the idea that a legend like Prince could actually go in the studio and just have a good time. Not try and change the world with some deep message, or reinvent himself with some new whackjob sound. But just go in the studio and workout.

The way to rid yourself of this disorder, if you have it, is to simply lighten up, and maybe breathe a little, think about how short life really is, and just have a good time.

Or, better yet, just do stop listening to it, but do us a favor and stop telling us you're not listening to it because we don't care.

I hear ya. It's cool to see Prince take off his genius hat and just jam, you know? 3121 is free and loose, unself-conscious and sharp. It's got a confident flow, like he finally realized he's got nothing to prove to anyone.

The religious stuff may strike some as preachy and didactic, but I dont' mind it. Especially when it sounds as good as "The Word."

:falloff:That's what makes the CD so kickass. It's just a fun CD with some of that Prince attitude that I love. Not every Prince album needs to be deep, like Big Band said.

Not fond of the album myself but I try to listen to it anyway just to celebrate the album's debut at #1. I still struggle trying to listen to the album straight through though.

here here!!!! well said - I suspect a lot of these people would have hated For You and Prince - Prince is a pop star and this is a pop album - the best he has made maybe 15 years

i dont listen to the album as a whole either..i play a couple of tracks here and there.. for me the album really stumbles at incense and candles and love...But on the flipside, Lolita is a fucking trip! its got a real 'hustle on', like the tracks he used to write for the time...And it is well produced!

Im also into get on the boat ...it takes longer but the groove does eventually grab u! - horns reminds me of kid creole ..has some similarities to old z records songs.

I'm listening to it all the time.

"Love" is my favorite track at the moment. Could become a classic. I love it.

Hope he's coming to Germany this summer.

I can't stop listening to it at the moment.

Probably the most I've listened to an album consecutively since TGE, which is my favourite album ever.

Although I did listen to Emancipation loads as well.

Love, Lolita and Fury are the songs I'm really enjoying, but the rest get better with every listen. Strange how Prince albums almost always do that. Maybe we should ban reviews for the first 3 months of each release!
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I really like this album. So I haven't listened to it in over a week now. Let me explain.....

I've read so much stuff from folks around here bitching about how this album is worse than that one. And all kinds of comparisons of new songs to old ones: "Lolita is trying to be Soft And Wet" "Black Sweat is just like Kiss". Blah blah blah.

And then there's the arguments about where his career has been, is now and will go.

So I decided to listen to all the released albums (roughly) in order of release. Sort of take the whole damn crazy ride over again and try to put all this music in perspective. I've just finished with the NPG Music Club releases from 2001 and am about to dive into TRC.

Once I'm done with this, I'll spin 3121 again and see what I think collectively. But I do know that, even with all the old jams getting another spin, I'm waking up in the morning humming The Word or tapping my foot to Love or yearning to hear Fury over again. If nothing else, 3121 is chock full of tunes that get under your skin and stick with you, so compared to past albums, this one is holding its own for me.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

ya know Mick..I wonder to myself..if you're a Prince fan or not. You don't seem very tolerant. Not in a bad way..

I think most new albums get played often the first few days..and then you either play them some more, or you don't..

As I've said before, 3121's released caused me to revisit some older stuff..TGE, the Symbol album, NPS, Crystal Ball..I've been listening to those songs and trying to link them to what he's done on 3121.

I have a cd collection, and I probably only listen to 25% of it..the rest is there when I'm in the mood..

It's not a Prince thing, it's human nature
