Which song(s) from 3121 will be a classic? Which of the songs do ya think will later be seen as a Prince-classic? [Edited 3/31/06 0:19am]

Fury definitely. The Word, Love and Lolita maybe. As for the rest, they're good but not memorable. Also, their status as classics will depend very much on the treatment they are given live. If prince chooses to play them a lot on the next tour, they'll become classics. If not i think they'll just be great album tracks.

I dont honestly think any of the songs on it qualify as classic Prince , if there is one it'll be Lolita though for me. Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

The album as a whole is a clasic!! but jus one song?..... nope. there are no individual classics. but there are lots of GR8 songs!!

IMO... "The Word" is one of the best-written and best-produced songs we've heard from Prince in ages!!
The other songs on 3121 are great as well, but I can tell that a lot of work was put into "The Word" -- I don't see how this song could ever lose its classic appeal.

This really depends on who you ask and what is considered 'classic' to you.
I think for most of his more core fans... 'the Word' or 'the Dance' would be the choice The rockers and pure funk soldiers would prob say 'Fury' Those who like Prince the 'pop star' may chose something like 'Love' or 'Lolita' Yet to those who enjoy Prince the R&B artist like myself.. it may well be I&C or BL&B (puts on flame resistant gear before the bitches start bitchin about someone liking these songs) But as a whole I think the album is as true a return to form moreso than most others which was considered that.. simply because a return to form = multi- genre appeal with tracks fallingly clearly into seperate genres including 'pop' appeal. to me that spells classic1 [Edited 3/30/06 10:05am] [Edited 3/30/06 10:07am]

that's hard. love, 3121, the word, black sweat I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

it´s impressive how Prince fans have so different tastes. I bet that if the same question was asked about Musicology there would be somebody that would answer ´Life O The Party´

Answering the question....I think that it´s not so easy for a song to be a ´Prince classic´. I mean, I enjoy listening to ´Get on the boat´ a lot, it´s very tight, the solos are great, but the melody/groove/lyrics aren´t so strong. And it´s not Prince signature funk.
When I think of ´Prince classics´ I think about strong melodies or grooves and that signature Prince sound. My personal faves are ´The Word´, ´Love´ and ´Fury´. ´Black Sweat´is cool, but I expected a stronger melody.
