On that note...most big rappers pretty much brag on themselves for a living. Snoop, Kanye and 50 cent seem to be doing okay audience-wise as well...(despite the latter two being just barely literate, go figure). There are probably tons of other musicians who do the same, I will admit I'm pretty out of the loop as far as mainstream music goes these days.

Prince's force of personality and individuality is so damn strong, and his self-expression is so different and aloof, that if he were "white" but his character was the same, i think he would be perceived pretty much as he is now,..no matter if he was white or not.
