After hearing 3121 again, B,L, & B is definitely the worst thing about the album. Not even the song itself, but where it's placed. Every song up until that point is strengthed by its context on the album.
After an energetic pop song and a really atmospheric piece, there's suddenly this overly long, sugary sweet ballad that just goes on and on. It feels tacked on. B,L, & B on its own? Average. B,L, & B on 3121? Awful. What are other songs that have killed the flow of a Prince album? I can only think of It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night, which feels about an hour long before Adore redeems all. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I have to agree with you about BL&B's placement on the album. I loved it before the album was released, but now I always skip it when I play 3121. It totally interupts the flow of the album.

BL&B was put on 3121 to promote Tamar, we all know that, right?
But yea, I don't think it belongs on 3121 Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Once again I agree with you good sir night.
It's an okay song that is misplaced on this album. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

On iTunes it says I have listened to every track on 3121 12+ times except for Incense and Candles (5) and Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed (3).
I really don't care for the song.

I still love that song, no matter where it´s placed. The songs I always skip are Lolita and Satisfied, the rest is very enjoyable, including 'Incense And Candles´...the lyrics are so-so, but I like the beat. Totally agree with you on that. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

i keep forgetting it's on the album until it comes on, then i think "oh, right...ta'mar commercial...SKIP" - not that i don't like her, but i don't need it on this prince album. it sounds like prince put it on there out of obligation to his protege project rather than because it flowed with the rest of his album.

BTW, did you know that Carrie and Doug Heffanans (sp?) house number is 3121? Just seen it on the telly.
As you were. | |
