Would it be cool if Prince re-recorded 'For You' as '4 U' in 2008? I had this thought: would it be cool if Prince re-recorded his debut album in 2008, to celebrate his 30 years as recording artist. He could update most of the songs to his current production/arranging standards (less emphasis on the falsetto use, or the typical out-dated synth sounds). What do you guys think? I know some of you might wanna kill me for even suggesting the idea (just think of George Lucas' special editions of the classic Star Wars-films...), but I guess if someone can do it, it's Prince himself. And it's not like 'For You' is a cultural classic like 'Purple Rain' or 'Sign O' The Times'... I would never want him to re-record those albums. But his debut album (and perhaps also 'Prince' and, to a lesser extent, 'Dirty Mind'), I wouldn't mind that.

Well he did rerecord Soft & Wet in '99, and who knows what else in order 2 make new masters of his old recordings, I heard a cd was planned 4 the 2002 version of the NPGMC with some of these rerecordings on there titled the best of as seen in the ONA tour book.

Yea why not. Make up with Warners, release a 30th anniversay remastered version of the original with a bonus 2nd disk thats a completely new rerecording of the album with completely new reworked versions of each song as he see them now (he sometimes comes up with interesting new versions of song like he did with Dorothy Parker * but NOT the 1999 remasters *!!). Would be kind of a nolvelty and something thats probably never been done by anybody.
Pity it'll never happen Oh well, next topic...

Sorry..but leave "For You" back in 1978. I just listened to it the other day for the 1st time (in a long time). It's great as a debut, but that LP is cool just as it is. When I heard in 94 that he planned on redoing it I was like "NOOOO"! Plus while listening to it, I get images of the "What's Happening!!" episode when Rerun is dancing against Disco Dynamite at the disco contest. Prince should just move on and not waste energy revisiting 1978.

As we click and yawn, Prince is feverishly devising a way to legally shut down all websites that put his name to shame.

I don't see the point, but I'd love it if he'd break into Baby in concert... I'd shit myself

I'd much rather see him release new material. But a remastered For You won't be a bad idea though... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

That would indeed be the most uncool think I can think of.

I agree with the other posters..Remaster it and put a 10 page booklet with pix, liner notes, and interviews with the engineers, mixers, P's old management, and bandmates to give a glimpse of what it was like to work with him and create. Shit, they should do that with ALL his Warner CD's if they remaster.

Mine would be "Just As Long As We're Together" all 6 minutes of it right down to the cheesy disco breakdown at the end. Girl I've always got to have you in my hair, got always have you in my heart. Ohhh baby your place or mine. I'll get the music baby you bring the wine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Eh, I'm indifferent to his first two albums. Sounds timid, like he's following the R&B trends of the day, being too respectful of the conventions. But it's an interesting idea. I think his live performances are his outlet for "rerecording" old songs, though. He always puts a new spin on old classics in concert. But it annoys me when he cuts songs short. When's the last time he said the entire preamble to "Let's Go Crazy?"

It would be cool however if in 2008 Prince recorded 4 MickG News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
