Imagine songs from 3121 on different albums Think about these 4 a sec...
1) 3121 on Come With its slower tempo and sliding guitars, 2 me this sounds a little bit like "The Undertaker", which came out around the same time as Come. 2) Lolita on The Gold Experience The girl speaking Spanish reminds me a little of Mayte on the intro 2 "Pussy Control", and the snare sounds kinda like that in "Dolphin". 3) Te Amo Corazon on Parade I know Under The Cherry Moon was filmed in France, but the elegance of this song would have fit nicely in the movie and on the album I think. 4) Black Sweat on 1999 I don't know, 2 me the old school Linn-like drum programming on this track isn't 2 far removed from the kind of sounds we heard on that album. 5) Incense and Candles on RAVE Un2 The Joy Fantastic A lot of similar percussive sounds as on "The Sun, The Moon And Stars", not 2 mention the unexpected rap. Plus the vox effect he uses was pretty mainstream back then. 6) Love on Emancipation There's a sliding synth in this song that reminds me of "Da Da Da" and a snare on occasion that slightly resembles "Slave". Would've worked well on Disc III. 7) Fury on Chaos And Disorder What better album 2 host a raw rocker like "Fury", especially with that ending...although the SNL performance might work better. 8) Satisfied on Musicology A bluesy seductive number that picks up where "On The Couch" leaves off. 9) The Word on The Truth Great acoustic flavor and a message about being saved has The Truth written all over it. 10) Beautiful Loved And Blessed on Graffiti Bridge Remember when u bought Graffiti Bridge and noticed all these songs that WEREN'T sung by Prince and thought, WTF? Me 2. The shuffle beat (almost New Jack Swing-ish in a way) was pretty common back then. 11) The Dance on The Vault...Old Friends 4 Sale U hear an unreleased song, and then several years later it gets revamped and ends up on a jazz-influenced album - I think "The Dance" fits the bill. 12) Get On The Boat on The Rainbow Children I hear an "Everlasting Now"/"Family Name" kind of vibe on this track OK, some of these ideas are rather odd, I'll admit. But I gotta believe some of them make at least some sense. And by the way, this thread is not about putting down the album or anything like that. I love 3121 as it is, in its entirety. I'm just using a little imagination. Anyone else think of other albums with any songs? Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

Whatcha talking bout willis?
I think Fury and Lolita both could have been on 1999 or earlier. The rest really could have been on any of his albums.

1) 3121 on Exodus
The track as a whole just reminds me of that period, I can see this sitting on the playlist right next to Big Fun. 2) Lolita on Graffiti Bridge or Pandemonium This sounds like Prince-produced tracks for the The Time circa 1990. To be more specific, this sounds like a left over 1982 out-take from What Time Is It that was re-recorded for 1990. 3) Te Amo Corazon on Parade Parade seems the logical choice for this track given the intro... 4) Black Sweat on Parade or Rave This track is like Kiss for 2006 but there's also more than a hint of Undisputed in this one. 5) Incense and Candles on era For some reason this song really feels, to me, like it came out of the early '90s. I can kind of see it as a out-take or a b-side to LoveSign. 6) Love on or Dream Factory The verses remind me of the album again but the chorus and drum pattern sound like they have a 1986 inspiration. I can easily see this as being a Prince vault item that W&L pulled out and reworked. 7) Fury on 1999 or Chaos And Disorder/Crystal Ball (1998) The synths scream 1999 but the rest feels like a early to mid-90s work... maybe a TGE or C&D left-over that should have ended up on the CB collection. 8) Satisfied on Musicology This ballad is delivered in such a traditional, old school way that Musicology seems like it's real home. 9) The Word on Rave Sounds like a deep album cut that would have worked great in place of Strange But True... maybe this would be the Rave IN2 remix version. 10) Beautiful Loved And Blessed on 1-800 New Funk stand alone track from a soon to be forgotten protege. 11) The Dance on Batman out-take Something about the tone and production on this reminds me of Dance With The Devil. 12) Get On The Boat on Musicology or PrettyMan unreleased alt. version This sounds like Prince re-recorded PrettyMan with different lyrics but it's traditional enough, and generic enough, to have been a Musicology out-take.
