It's funny when people say "Musicology' sold alot of records. Billboard changed it's rules beacuse Prince gave all those records away to get on the charts.

But anyway, I'm glad Prince has new fans of his music. I think it's cool he's still sort of trying to put new stuff out, I just think it's silly to compare his older songs to the new stuff. There's no comparison.

But like I said, how many great songs can one person write? Nobody can keep going- McCartney is crap now, Stevie's lost it, Sting's lost it, MJ, Madonna, Bruce, Clapton, U2, and the list goes on. They're still better than most of the new artists, but not close to their peaks, and just rehashing the same ideas.

It's easier for those legends who die young- Hendrix, Lennon, Cobain, etc. They died so there is no expectation now.

What utter bullshit.

These artists you list could have retired years ago, fled to some remote island never to be heard from again. But no, they've continued their dialogue with their audience through their work. Because it's what they love to do.

There are plenty of former one hit wonders and flash-in-the-pans now living off residuals much more deserving of your disdainful "lost it" verdict. If anything, these artists have WON.

As for your thoughts on musicians dying young...

Yeah, if Sting died of a tantric sex accident after "Dream of the Blue Turtles," he might be more legendary than he already is. If MJ's whole body caught fire during that Pepsi commercial and he burned to a crisp, his legacy would be in tact, scandal free.

But you know what, not all stars live fast and die young. And I'm glad about that.

I'm glad U2 is still around. I'm glad Bruce Springsteen is still around. No, fuck glad, I'm GRATEFUL they're still around.

Their new releases might not set your panties on fire, but they're sharing their god given talent with us lowly mortals. Even in the face of people who don't appreciate it.

Agreed. Judging from that post, DMSR thinks every artist with some longevity has lost it, and that new artists are no good either. The only good musicians are the ones who died young?DMSR makes it sound like everyone should just either

A. stop making music.
B. Kill themselves young.

I didn't say that. I asked how many great songs can one person write, and was jst backing my point up. I'll repeat- I'm glad theyre still making music and it's still better than most new artists, but artists have peaks and it's very difficult to sustain that. Your life changes, you get money, you think your shit don't stink, you fire your band or anyone who says "no" and you fire your label, and you get what you want, but maybe it's not as good, because nobody is there saying "hey, why don't you try this chord" (see wendy and lisa on the PR DVD)

Bold words. I challenge you to make some music on your PC and let us hear it.

I would HONESTLY rather Swallow my own Tongue than produce ANYTHING RnB.

These days Im a Punk through and through, and spent the weekend writing and recording my first track, on this very PC. Got a whole load of Post to do, and the lyrics and intro to finish off.

But sure, you're on. smile

So where's your music?

Shoulda known this guy was a phony.
