I've read quite a few reviews of 3121 and I have to say that the critics at large seem to be underating this album. This is album is better than any of his albums since LoveSexy and is a hugely enjoyable listen showing great versitility and huge tunefulness. Yet the critics seem very grudging in their praise. It is like they wanted to hate this album and seem pissed off that they have to admit liking the damn thing!!

It really fucking annoys me. What do they want for Chrissakes! It sometimes seems that many of them are spitting praises through gritted teeth and are desperate to find something negative to say about a simply fantastic album.

Anyone else feel this?

no. they're critics. that's what they're paid to do for a living.

give 'em a break, they're trying to earn credibility from the music industry
kinda like what we used to do back in school
just write what the teacher wants to hear and you'll get your A

prince is without doubt one of the MOST most critically lauded artists in the history of the music press.

with perhaps the exception of NPS and chaos and disorder p has had uncommenly good reviews throughout his whole career-how many times can you read the word'genius'

on the whole the critics kiss his ass-so a few negative ones kind of maintain a balance.

The album is still kinda lame. The reviews are strange.

I'll tell you what I think-no matter what is said about Prince or his music, there are going to be about a bajillion different things people think Prince should do. When TRC came out, word was he should ditch the JW vibe. When ONA and ONA Live came out, word was that he should have made a more "hits oriented" album. When Xpectation, C-Note and NEWS came out, people dogged him for going off track with the jazz vibe. Whem Musicology came out, people said he shouldn't have gone so middle of the road (even though Prince warned us that there wouldn't be any experiments on the album). And when a year or so passes by, people will start to pick the album apart, because they are tired of it or it blinked wrong at them or something. Music fans are the most fickle people on the face of God's green Earth. Funny. LOL.

..and if your a new fan youve chosen an artist who not many people'get'

I never go by what critics say. They are human beings with tastes of their own just like everybody else.
