Some people seem to getting confused. The 93-95 NPG is not the first NPG.

This is going to turn into another "camille voice" thread.... wink biggrin

Prince was using the "New Power Generation" phrase back in 88.

Its the difficulty in that question that make it another Camille debate! biggrin

So when did the NPG start?

The first mention of NPG is on Lovesexy. Could this be the birth? Maybe, maybe not.

Then of course with have the 1990 song "New Power Generation". Could this be the birth, Maybe, maybe not.

If there is an "Official" birthday, then it could be argued its 1991, When the D&P album was credited to Prince and the New Power Generation.

But if thats the case, does this make 1999 the first album by Prince & The Revolution? Even without Wendy?

However, there is no doubt that the NPG existed as an entity in 1991, so therefore the 93-95 line up is a progression, rather than a birth.

thebige

Birth of the N.P.G. should properly be located with Prince's SNL appearance performing "Electric Chair" in '89 and the ending was early '96. In other words, the Michael Bland era. Once Sonny T. was brought in it was on. Anything post '96 ain't NPG. Accept no substitutes!! Change that band name P, it's only about ten years too late!!

cool
No Sonny T?
No Michael B?
Ain't NPG!

That's precisely the moment that I call "the beginning of the end"

Everyone groaned, some started for the parking lot. Then the voice continued, "If you would like Prince to perform some more, you can KISS. HIS. ASS."

Then he came back out (it was him talking all along), people went crazy, and he rocked "1999."

Great story.

I never saw him with this band, but I can't see how they could be better than his 2004 touring band. Of course, Rosie was the bomb. Just bring her back razz
