Why Won't Black Sweat be a Hit ? (future tense thread) ?
He's hip. He's got the #1 album. Why wont it be rotation?

I went and bought it today even though it's not my favourite track and I have the album already. Must be just the novelty of getting a Prince single in the shops again. And also cos the video for Black Sweat is on there.
I must go up into the attic and try to find that tape I used to record all his videos when they were released. Haven't seen the likes of I Wish U Heaven for years.

I think it could still become a hit but the singles market simply isn´t there anymore....it is really more of a playlist thing today than an actual chart information, and on top of that, single aren´t really that attractive anymore...not only because of downloads, but also because there aren´t any spectacular remixes on them, though I like the idea of putting a video on a single.
But like Imago said, I would much rather see another cool maxisingle with remixes again, or remixes plus some new song(s)...the I Hate U maxi with all those different versions was the last truly great Prince single, I love that remix of I Hate U with those extralyrics and that deep bass. The different versions of songs revisited by Prince are often quite exciting, he really knows how to make interesting remixes and he can give songs a totally different twist or add a lot of stuff. In my opinion, Prince is one of the true originators and pioneers in remixing a song, I have always liked his old remixes or even some of those done by others, like that Mark Moore remix of The Future....though I usually prefer the "pure" Prince sound without too much input by others. Come On was another good single..the remix was good and it had a couple of different versions. And let´s not even start reminiscing about the extralong maxisingles from the D&P era...with stuff like Violet The Organ Grinder...great stuff. That would make a purchase much more tempting...but a simple album version that´s already short and then a video ? Prince knows how to put out a great maxi, who knows, he might surprise us with another great maxi with lots of extras... "The Hate Experience" or "The Beautiful Experience" were interesting projects, different variations of the same song...and then those fantastic b-sides from the 80´s ....you´d get greatness like 17 Days as the b-side of the When Doves Cry 45 rpm single...those were the days... These days, I don´t see any particular reason to buy a single except for being a completist. Black Sweat is a great Prince song, a nice maxisingle would be cool, maybe even an EP...but I guess the market is totally different these days. Exactly. But, never say never when it comes to Prince having a #1 song, I suppose. Believe it or not, there was a time when almost nobody thought he could have a #1 record breaking tour, or #1 debut album. Anyways..... "New Power slide...."

I just surmise that people don't much like the falsetto. You rarely see falsettos do that well, except for Pharell, o' course. All you others say Hell Yea!!

[Edited 4/5/06 2:43am] [Edited 4/5/06 2:44am] Yeah, I miss the days. I still remember the fateful day in 1998 when the UK passed a regulation regarding CD singles - no more than 20 minutes in length, no more than 3 tracks. Bye-bye maxis, bye bye loads of remixes or b-sides on each single. That was the first inkling I had that the music industry in fact did not give two tits about music, the artist or the consumer.
