Do you think Prince is trying to be hip again in 3121 like he did in the '90s?

These songs in 3121 are just so derivative for him-- that title track 3121-- is easily getting annoying. Reminds me of the 90s output where he tries to rap to fit in to the current music then. I thought with Musicology, it was a step in the right direction but he takes a step backward again in 3121 with these "safe" songs. I think he's trying too hard to please in 3121 and I'm not feeling it. Just trying to be honest with my feelings for it. What do you think?

I think that perhaps you should limit the amount of new threads you are starting at the moment. smile I have been disappointed by the album too, but there's no need to start the zillionth new thread of that alone. You can express your opinions on the other threads that address the subject (basically, every other thread that's currently on the top page of the forum).

Carry on.

all i can say about prince trying to be hip again is that he had better do something if he wants his popularity to grow again, and not continue his rapid decline.....

Well, I guess you didn't click on the other threads on this forum that are predicting the album to chart at #1 or somewhere near...

I have no idea who's buying it though. But that seems to be the case.

IMO, this album seems to integrate current sounds better than some of his past efforts. I'm not one who's really bothered by the idea that every so often he may be influenced by what's "current". He's obviously been influenced by musicians he grew up listening to, I don't see why he can't continue to be influeced by more "current" artists.

Rapid decline? He seems to be bouncing back wonderfully from the commercial failure that was TRC, what with a possible #1 album next week and all. How many copies of TRC were sold in total? Me thinks he's going to surpass that in one week with 3121.

No - Prince is just doing what he does best - making funky pop music

He is a pop music maestro!!

3121 is much better than Rave - his best CD in years

r u kidding? 3121 is nothing new,,it has all the essentials of a Prince album
The funk, the quirky 3121 song, the ballads, the fun pop songs, ....
Rave does not compare.

Keep listening to 3121, dont stop,,,it takes atleast 3-4 spins....if u dont get
it by then..I dont know what to tell u..but I have been into P for over 20years and this CD is pure prince, thru and thru.

I think you're confused. You claim to be honest with your feelings, but you didn't share a single emotion. You only dispensed judgments.

Exactly. One doesn't need to be limited in their influences. As long he's not outright "biting" someone else's style or song, I see no problem with it. It's all pretty circular when you think about it. Cats like Pharell, Andre and many others have been immensely influenced by Prince.

Yeah kinda. I understand where you are coming from. But the album has some cool songs on it. Actually the more and more I hear Te Amo Corozon the more I realise how brilliant it is. Prince really tried something new in my eyes with it. But yeah I'm tired of the boring, slow love songs like Satisfied and Incense & Candeles.

Hard 2 tell... It's 2006. None of us will be alive in 3121.

Problem is its too R&B and not FUNK enough.

I expected a FUNK cd , less pop/r&b.

He'll succeed in his agenda however.

I don't think he's trying too hard at all. The album sounds energetic and modern, but still distinctly Prince - And there's nothing wrong with that. Under the gloss, which is used sensibly, there is some of the man's best, most focused pop songwriting in years.

I have been asking Myself the same type of questions since hearing the release. He has taken a turn like I've never seen him take before, this pseudo-techno sonds is out there, and the disc has been put down from all directions posssible! DAC

TAC and Black Sweat, which I thought were lame before I heard the rest of 3121, turned out to be the best tracks of the CD. How sad is that...

WOW! Is Prince trying to be Hip again? NO! This is a MAN who wears pumps. His hair 95% percent of the time is more whipped than a womans. Did I mention HE is a pure musical genius. He is always hip. From guitar solo to piano solo. From Pop to Rock n Roll and everything in between. Telling record labels to kiss his Ass and continue to have those who appreciates and respect what he has done and is contining to do in the The world of music. In case you didn't notice Rainbow Child this is Prince.org a Site dedicated to the man and his music. Somehow I doubt the Almighty Black Eyed Peas Will ever have a moment in there life where they can do one third of what this man has accomplished. Hell no he can't learn a God damned thing from them. Except how to bore the hell out of an audience and put them to sleep. Yeah I watched a concert with them over the weekend. Good Lord it was pure rubbish from beginning to end. If you want to knock the man fine your entitled to your opinion, but to compare him to that group of Bullshit is Blasphemy!
