An Introduction 2 the World of Prince Fans Welcome!
If U have ventured on the Org by chance or curiosity, this thread is 4 u. Please do not b alarmed by the wacky topics, insane groupies and Supa. can explain. The first thing U have 2 know about Prince fans is that they r by definition obsessed. Not everyone is equally obsessed nor does their obsession manifests itself n the same fashion, but that much is true : we r a little nutty, one way or another. Here, U r likely 2 find people who write everything in Princebonics, have purchased towels allegedly used by Him, panned every official release since 1995 but got damn near every major boot that came out, wrote long letters to Prince 4 years and years or had tattooed on their left bun. While most fans r fairly reasonable if u don't give them 2 much sugar, there's no denying their emotional investment in Prince. Even those that profess to dislike him now were once posting gushy reviews in the Holy River chatroom or fetichising Mayte or Carmen or even Tony M. (he was cute). Everyone is here because they once loved and ideally still do love Prince and his music, xcept maybe U. Now that we've established that Prince fans r committed or should b, let me xplain why. In a nutshell, Prince is the ideal artist to get obsessed about due to his gigantic and incredibly varied discography both official and bootleg. If U were gonna pick 1 artist 2 keep u busy, Prince is it. The other major cause of our obsessive disorder is sex. Of course I'm sure even U know that Prince used to b xtremely upfront about sex in his songs. He's also known for his sexual methaphores. Now he's more inclined to tease with a double entendre and then coyly deny it's sexual, but never mind that for now because what makes sex so compelling in Prince's case is that it's often delivered with a dose of morality. These days, buying a Prince record is a little bit like a weekend with sex on Friday and Saturday and then a sermon on Sunday. It's very comforting cuz U can b bad and U can b good. Of course, Prince is not the only one who does that but he does it better than almost anyone alive. Which brings me to another fundamental factor : duality. U see, deep down we all want 2 eat our cake and keep it too. In this instance, Prince is cake on legs. From the beginning he always seemed 2 want it both ways : male/female, gay/straight, sexual/spiritual, accessible/obscure, traditional/futuristic, independent artist/contract with the biggest major that ever was, married/single, recluse/party host, etc., etc. the list goes on and on. He's basically able 2 contradict himself all the time and still b genuine, and that is very appealing to a lot of people who are themselves full of contraditions. apologize in advance if some r a bit bewildering -- u will get used 2 it. Now that we've discussed the fundamentals, let's talk about etiquete. As you can expect, we seem a bit unruly but in fact there r rules. I'M confident u'll b alright if you follow these 5 easy ones : [i]1. As amusing as we r, please don't make fun of us. 2. If u criticize a record, it's best 2 pick something that wasn't released before 1989. 3. If U mention Wendy and Lisa or MJ or if U diss Adore or ask about One Man Jam, Hey Hannigan or Ming Mong Charlie or inquire if he's gay, you r on your own. 4. If U happen 2 develop our obsessive disorder, don't b 2 harsh on the naysayers. Most of them have been traumatized by Mr. Happy, NPS, the Crystal Ball fiasco, the fansite lawsuits, The Christ, Larry Graham's influence on Prince's lyrics, Kirky J's influence on Prince's sound, Prince's decision to part with Mayte, 1999:The New Master, Stauros, the war with Warner, N.E.W.S. Kamasoutra, half of Rave, the Gangsta Glam video, the decision to stop swearing, his wardrobe and of course Work the P. and Jughead. wish U well on your journey. Along the way am sure u will find helpful fans wise beyond their years who can advise u on everything U need 2 know about the World of Prince fans. [Edited 4/1/06 19:25pm]

A great deal, but do you think Zappaheads are as crazy as we are? It seems impossible.

My husband thought I was obsessed until he went to a local Prince party with me some years ago and also had a peek over here on the .org. I haven't heard "you are obsessed with that man" ever again.

He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

WoW, must have been a slow day at the office.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

More like 30 minutes of a lazy Saturday morning. It was inteligent, witty, and entertaining, so I would say it was 30 minutes well spent. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
