Y does everybody here dislike NPS?

I know it isn't his best, far from. But I do like it.

Especially Come On, New power Soul and Funky music.

Untill Ure in my arms again and Wasted kisses R nice 2.

It's much better than Rave IMO. When You Love Somebody, Shoo Bed Oo, Come On and The One are very good songs.

Much better than Rave.

I hate his look in rave and Xcept 4 Rave itself and a few other songs the music is OK.

We don't. I am someone, that would be part of that everyone, but really I am nobody, but I still love that album.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I wouldn't say I "dislike" it. I see it as a wasted chance (much like "Rave").

His idea was to make an album which captures the live band vibe of his gigs around the time (according to the Mel B. interview - hence, the dedication to the NPG makes sense). The album just doesn't do that imo. Half of the songs are good Prince cuts, the other half, especially "Freaks" and "Funky Music" but also "Mad Sex" could be great if they were better executed (= more live vibe, better arrangements, less chant choruses).

Let me tell you something. That cheesy 'When U love Somebody' song has been looped in my house a million times with me singin' along.

I'm sorrry ..it recalls the vibe of 'When U Were Mine' for me ...not just sonically and moodwise...but lyrically & emotionally...the lady cheatin' and Prince hurt & so in love he's willing to take the leftovers.

I LOVE that song. It's really signature Prince even though folks hate it.(it might have done better in the eighties)

Also, Come On and The One were just played in my house yesterday. Love them too.

And don't tell anyone ...but I also sing the chant to 'freaks on this side.' neutral

It's not exactly my favorite album, but I think it does get a lot of undeserved
flak. Mainly because most people insist on viewing it out of context, as a
'Prince' album, and compare it to Rave, Emancipation & The Vault etc. When it's
intended to be viewed in the same context as Goldnigga & Exodus.

Im not keen on the studio version of The One but when i hear it live its really good.

I don't like NPS but it's better than Musicology. There are 5 songs I like on NPS :

Until Ure In My Arms Again

Push It Up

Come On

The One

Waisted Kisses

The rest on NPS sucks smile

I actually like this album. Partially cos it reminds me of many, MANY great nights at Paisley when he was working out the material prior to it's release. Come On remains one of my favorite prince songs of all time.

That being said, when things go bad on this albu, they go REAL bad. Push It Up and Freaks On This Side are just intolerably bad, IMO.

But, that's what the skip button is for. smile I like the rest of it nod

• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I like it more than 3121, I will admit that right now. I agree with Tom Moon that NPS is a good little dance album, meant to not be taken too seriously. Prince never intended the album to be SOTT, he just wanted something for Jiggas to dance 2. In that respect it works perfectly. Some bad songs, but mostly good to great.

Both Come On and The One are classics, yes, classics. Wasted Kisses is a semi-classic. That's 3 almost classics on one album, pretty good odds, I'd say.

People who hate this album, but love 3121 have a head full of bat shit.

Well Come on, and the One are decent. The rest of it is total shit. The best track is the "hidden" track Wasted Kisses. That and it was the first album to not have a song that i totally love, everything up to that had atleast one track i loved and everything since then has as well.
