Because most of the album is sellout hip hop shit. Andy is a four letter word.

BorisFishpaw said: Prince had intended to release a follow-up to Exodus entitled 'New Power Soul' from before Exodus had actually been released back in 1995 (though it was a very different album at this point). So it can hardly be seen as a last minute change of mind. The original New Power Soul album would've featured a lot of tracks that didn't make it on to Exodus, and I'm pretty sure it was going to be a mail order only album (not commercially released like Newpower Soul was). Right, as you'll note, my comment concerned the announcements of the time. First there was notice that a new album was coming and then a short bit later it was announced it wasn't his album but a NPG release. That's why I wondered if there was some wavering on the name it was going to be released under... Was it simply a screw up by his Press person?, etc...

Especially Come On, New power Soul and Funky music. Untill Ure in my arms again and Wasted kisses R nice 2. Let me tell you something. That cheesy 'When U love Somebody' song has been looped in my house a million times with me singin' along. I'm sorrry ..it recalls the vibe of 'When U Were Mine' for me ...not just sonically and moodwise...but lyrically & emotionally...the lady cheatin' and Prince hurt & so in love he's willing to take the leftovers. I LOVE that song. It's really signature Prince even though folks hate it.(it might have done better in the eighties) Also, Come On and The One were just played in my house yesterday. Love them too. And don't tell anyone ...but I also sing the chant to 'freaks on this side.' "When you love somebody..every now and then it might rain When you love somebody ..in every sunshower there is pain whenever something's lost, something gained -- when you LOVE somebody." When You Love Somebody is nice. So is Until You're In My Arms Again. They're sparkly and shimmering, and maybe some people aren't into that. I dig me some shiny pretty songs at times. And yes, WYLS is similar to When You Were Mine, the willingness to endure so much suffering for love. It's a bit odd, though, how bouncy the vibe is on such a pathetic feeling. The funkier, darker, serious material on NPS didn't register for me, though. And The One doesn't convince me at all. The line about "responsibility" sounds put on. Until you prove you take responsibility for your actions you're just claiming. There I go on my high horse again... [/end high horse]

I cut him a break dissing this album because he was going through a really rough time personally when this was made. There are one or two songs that don't totally make me cringe. And, the best two songs on it are depressing as all get out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rhastus said: Well Come on, and the One are decent. The rest of it is total shit. The best track is the "hidden" track Wasted Kisses. That and it was the first album to not have a song that i totally love, everything up to that had atleast one track i loved and everything since then has as well.
And I'm not laughing at you Rhas. Your post was just so blunt and to the point. . [Edited 3/27/06 17:50pm] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

While a lot of people like to dump on NPS, it's obviously a guilty pleasure for many of us here on the org.

I love this song. Definately underrated Yes I love this song so much. It really remindes me of a girlfriend that I love with all my heart. She goes from guy to guy...gets hurt...repeats the cycle...I feel bad...she's just looking for love like the rest of us...she is just going about it the wrong way. Prince totally captured her...even though he doesn't know her...isn't the power of music amazing???
