Aw dude, you have no idea. This mother is a smooth piece of work. The way the words roll off of Prince's tongue like he's making it up on the spot, a melody that sounds instantly familiar, lyrics that are convincing--I believe him when he sings about his "new inspirations."

Such an urgent message and he delivers it with this sensual mellowness--he's seducing your soul to goodness, now ain't that sumpthin'? It's like the new Anna Stesia, only this time, he has the nerve to be sexy about it. He warns against the poisonous tricksters in life, real dangers, but we feel no fear cuz he's singing with absolute conviction. It's breathtakingly good.

Can I get a hallelujah???

Yes!! I thought of that song straight away (I love that song - one of my faves on Emancipation wink )

Klove

This is my favorite one on the album because its like the words and music is taking you on a soul searching journey. I love the way the song makes me feel and it could be a breakthrough for someone who is struggling with getting save and walkin' in the the brand newness of life. cool

I like The Word as well. Not to throw anyone else off track, but did you notice in the credits that he did all the instruments for this song. So would this be the 1st time that Prince actually played sax on one of his own songs?

is that not a keyboard sax...as in, maybe he's not really playing sax? a question ya'll bow

That's exactly what I was wondering, if it was a real sax or keyboard sax.

lol Why is this bugging people out? It ain't like he did a damn Najee solo on it, it's like 2-3 notes @ a time giggle

Aww hell, I'm sorry... YES, he's a genius for the 20k time geek

Wasn't buggin me out. I was just wondering if it was a real saxophone he was playing, cuz that would mark the first time he's played sax on any of his releases (I'm sure there are some demos or outtakes of him on sax), or if it was a keyboard making the sax sound.

themewise, it reminded me a lot of the holy river, actually... the thing about getting saved, like going down to the river (getting baptized at a revival, or something like that)...

oh yes, and the synth reminds me a lot of the same in Duran Duran's "Do the demolition." did anyone else think of that?

Uhm no. But I truely love the way Prince sings this song, his voice sounds wonderful ... the small sighs right at the start to the "Aaah" at 0:11s, the way he pronounces the word "courage" at around 1:16s, the small scream at the end, the lovely chorus. Classic Prince, best song on the album imo.

Krid

The Word is really the most surprising track, and I think the most contemporary on the new disc. Surely the only one that would have a chance of radio airplay here in Germany...

It is the only tune that got me instantly hooked, got a very infectous groove.

The rest of 3121 is usual Prince fare, this is something new.

And thank God he produced this one properly...

BTW, many of the tracks on 3121 had me wishing Prince would hire an outside producer with whom he would have discussions on the sound clarity (I think some tunes sound rather flat) and on what to add or what to reduce (I think some of the weird, "atonal" synth sounds are really burrying otherwise beautiful songs).

But I don't think we will ever see this.
