I dig it too biggrin I haven't followed the threads too closely but it seems no one is talking about this one. It's pretty heavy handed religion-wise, but if it were the same melody/arrangement & he was talking about fuckin' some chick, they'd be all over it...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

You Tell them!
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

I do like porkchops, but I wouldn't hit anyone with it.

clapping clapping This is the absolute truth.. and I wish they would get off of that, or maybe that's the problem. I read some of these posts, and I picture guys sitting on their couches literally jacking off to Prince songs, or even worse playing -"air" guitar....

I also love this song...in fact, it's my favorite on 3121 (Fury is 2nd). My wife compared the syncopated rhythm acoustic guitar to that of Ani DiFranco (my 2nd fave artist after Prince) so perhaps that is why I like it so.

I love that song.

It's essentially a gospel song. But it's very sensual for a call to God. From the cheesy beat, the soothy synth backdrop, and the subdued sax. I kind of wish he didn't layer his voice so much in it, but I still love this song. One of my favorites on 3121.

It's my favorite track on the album...

The first time I heard the intro. drum groove, it sounded just like Eric B. and Rakim's "I Know You Got Soul".

I like The Word as well. Not to throw anyone else off track, but did you notice in the credits that he did all the instruments for this song. So would this be the 1st time that Prince actually played sax on one of his own songs?

I'm not feeling it... But then I don't seem to be in tune with what the "real" prince fans like... I just don't "get" a lot of the music he does now, or has done the past 5 years, I try to like every album though, I usually come away with 1 song I like.

Aw dude, you have no idea. This mother is a smooth piece of work. The way the words roll off of Prince's tongue like he's making it up on the spot, a melody that sounds instantly familiar, lyrics that are convincing--I believe him when he sings about his "new inspirations."

Such an urgent message and he delivers it with this sensual mellowness--he's seducing your soul to goodness, now ain't that sumpthin'? It's like the new Anna Stesia, only this time, he has the nerve to be sexy about it. He warns against the poisonous tricksters in life, real dangers, but we feel no fear cuz he's singing with absolute conviction. It's breathtakingly good.

Can I get a hallelujah???

When I first heard this track, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it to be honest. It sounds as if Prince is mumbling the lyrics. Almost as if he's embarrassed of them. I didn't know what to make of the delivery.

Plus - this may seem picky - but I was thinking 'Let's do something' should probably be a bit more specific. Let's do what??!

Then - and I know this sounds stupid - I thought 'Well, there's no way he's going to tape something that he's embarrassed about' and, even if he was, he'd re-record the vocals surely? So I just accepted that was how he wanted them to be heard and that's that.

But you've just gone and hit the nail on the head, for me. Maybe he wants it to seem like a stream-of-consciousness thing. And yeah, the melody does seem familiar. nod And I guess Prince is letting us make our own minds up about what that 'something' is.

By the way, I absolutle LOVE the chorus on this track. It's just so uplifting. I love the guitar ending but I could easily listen to that chrous over and over. It gives me goosebumps. cloud9

I guess I just thought that - for one of his 'message' songs - it doesn't really say what that 'something' is, lol. I thought the message was lost in some ways. But that's probably the point - we can all interpret it in whatever way we wish.

And I like your signature, by the way. giggle
