That tedious tune may have actually improved Musicology, thank goodness it did not bring down the Rainbow Children. Here's hoping it is not recorded for his next new record.
I find it tedious too. For all his wailing the song doesn't pack much of a punch.

His production is what makes his music sound like its running in circles.. the innovation has escaped.. The songwriting is still great.. production isn't. [Edited 3/28/06 0:12am]

You better start a new thread for this and prepare for stones to be cast. 3121 is fantastic with solid production, as was the case with One Night Alone, piano, and the Rainbow Children. merf

Although I don't think The Dance is a particularly strong song, I think the new version has an incredible ending - Prince has never sounded like that on piano and it all just builds fantastically.
Still, it seems strange that he put it on The Chocolate Invasion (the ONLY previously unreleased track on that or The Slaughterhouse) just 2 years ago, only for it to appear on his next album. Maybe that film soundtrack theory has some basis in reality.

Maybe that film soundtrack theory has some basis in reality. It's possible. He might have also been rehearsing it for a live performance and had inspiration strike him. Personally, I think he really did a great job with the new version. Makes me wish he'd do something similar to the crappy songs on NPS.
