The Dance is one of the best songs on the album, because it reminds me of his best 80's work, which is sorely lacking on the new album. At least he doesn't shine his dick on Pharrell's ass. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Prince has reached a new creative peak right now and this song is just magic! This song prickles hairs on the back of my neck, while the passion it evokes would set most buildings ablaze. Come on now, listen!
Give it 3 months tops, you will be skipping the Dance. Prince does sound grandiose on this track, but it does not feel meant. All this shrieking at the end , this is not Beatiful Ones, and should have been treated accordingly. I agree with you all it is good to disagree, and a lot of people actually seem to like the track, but within a year, I think you shall realize it's lameness. I felt the same about the song "Gold", did not ring true, did not grow wings and take off. That said the new album is tremendous, really digging Beautiful, Loved and Blessed. You are hilarious. You wrote, "All this shrieking at the end , this is not Beatiful Ones, and should have been treated accordingly." I'm sorry, that's a little lame. The shrieking is what makes this song great! It's totally okay that many people ain't feeling this song, but stop trying to convince people not to like it by placing a timeline on when we're not going to listen to it anymore. This could turn out to be a bonafide classic, or not, either way, I don't care. I likey!

It sounds like it wasn't long enough, like Prince was about to belt it for a few more seconds, and a fly flew in his mouth or something, making for the abrupt ending. That's true, but didn't the abrupt ending leave you wanting more.....I say it was a brilliant move. LOL @ a fly in his mouth. But the ending did leave me breathless and wanting more. Leave it to Prince to stop just when it's.....nevermind Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Same here I really liked the other version & was initially turned off by this version. I thought it was just too chock full of shit - the claps, the strings, the screaming HOWEVER, I'm pretty nuts about it now, I think I fell for it on the 3rd listen. I even look forward to the claps now I gotta say I wish he'd gone from "on the north corner of the" straight to the wail & skipped "ohh baby baby baby, it's just not fair! (2x)" the shit gets comical & I giggle every fucking time. I don't need to look crazy in my car!

I agree. The Dance is an absolutely incredible song. The whole way through, it sounds like a man struggling with the love he feels for such a special woman on such a romantic night, and the torment he feels for that love being unrequited now. It's a brilliant balance of whimsical and ominous, and then the ending just culminates its sadness. [Edited 3/25/06 12:52pm]

Devilstwin let me encourage you to think again why I don't like The Dance:
1. The Emancipation Melody that appears at the end and stays there blows. He's done it before, why the heck is he doing it again? 2. It is self-indulgent, just goes on and on about how he feels blahblah l: Prince is rarely at his best when he is so wrapped up in himself that he can't see withouth. A self-indulgent Prince = overworked music with no focus or wider meaning for his audience. I can see why you like it..its a bit different, it has a nice ambience to it and the passion in it is very striking but the end product sounds like an Emancipation cast off and that whole record gave me the feeling of an artist with limitless potential shackled by his own anger, resentment and self doubt. And to quote from the Dance: I don't want to feel this way again..... devilstwin said: Buttox said:LUV4U I couldn't agree more. Devilstwin obviously needs a few music lessons of their own. While it would be a stretch to say you insulted some people, I highlighted the parts in your post to show that you were putting people who don't like the song down because (a) they are negative, and (b) saying the song is too grand for you to understand--implying they don't have the intelligence to choose for themselves and you do. I agree with you that the Dance is a great song, but no need to beat someone over the head for disagreeing.

Just don't call people negative because they stated their opinion and they might be willing to listen.
