Musically speaking, "The Word" is my favorite P song in years

It's preachy as hell lyrically speaking but, from a pure musical standpoint, I LOVE "The Word". For me, it is the catchiest song, musically speaking, since "In This Bed I Scream". The drum, the guitar, the vocal effects...songs like this are why I became a Prince fan to start with. I cannot get it out of my head.

I'm the opposite. Lyrically speaking best in years for me. Musically I don't think it's so catchy.

In this Bed I scream stands out more (musically) to me. But I'm glad you dig it.

I loved this song from the first time I heard it, and the guitar seemed so familiar - yesterday it struck me that the guitar sounds just like he recorded it in the Lovesexy era - if fact, I might even say that he used a cloud guitar (although I have no basis for this, and we haven't seen him use one for years).

Musically and lyrically, I love this.

Yep, The Word is definitely my fave, right now. Even when it's not playing, I still hear that sax. This whole CD is gonna be great live. I can't wait for the tour.

I've been using it for the stretch portion of an exercise class I teach, and I notice that the youngsters are bobbing their heads to it.

Great song.

i'm thinking 'the word' and 'get on the boat' are my two favs. which is pretty funny since i don't enjoy the religious message per se. but musically these two songs are stunning

These songs are not preachy at all, why is everyone trippin?
If u think about it, any song can be preachy..guess the difference
is in what your preachin about. God or something else.
Agree that the two tracks are very catchy, especially THE WORD.

This song isn't too preachy to me. In a word, it's smooth . . .
