Fam here and proud of it I've been a Prince fan for 28 years now, since I was nine years old dancing to Soft & Wet. In all those years, there have been almost as many albums and on every single one of them, I can find at least one song I like and if I'm lucky, love. Almost every day, I can pull down a CD and discover something on it that I didn't notice before or even go years without listening toone and then come back to discover I absolutely love them, like Come and Chaos and Disorder. I really, truly appreciate Prince. Lovesexy was such a blessing for me as a mixed up teenager. People say it saved their lives and I know it saved mine.
I see here sometimes that people diss and disrespect him as a person, an artist and while I can't do anything about that (to each his own), I can say that I can't understand it. All I know is that I can't play an instrument or write music or sing, so first he gets props for that. Second, he gets props for continuing to do his thing even when his 'fans' are his biggest critics. Peace to all the other fams out there.

I'm with you Romera I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Thank you for this thread!! I too am a proud "fam" since his first album and sounds like we are about the same age Prince definately helped me through some rough times in my life and continues to do so thru his music. I've ALWAYS respected him for his EXSQUISITE musical genius and it bothers me too when folks dog him, but u know what they say about opinions....they're like a**holes and everybody's got one. Regardless of the critics of his music, regardless of the rumours of what woman he's "hittin it" with, regardless of his "mysterious persona" that people "just don't get" or how "weird" folks think he is, I will ALWAYS be a FAM to the grave!! "Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

I became a fan of Prince in 1979 at the tender age of 10. I was in the 5th grade when my mother took me to the Rick James/Prince concert. I fell in love with the li'l man wearing the Farrah 'do, high-heel boots, bikini underwear and trenchcoat.
By the time 1999 rolled around, Prince owned me. Seeing him on the 1999 tour blew my mind. Oh, and that picture of him on bed on the lp sleeve of the 1999 album . 1999 will always be near and dear to my heart. It's my favorite album by P. I went on an 18 year hiatus (1986-2004) from Prince, but I am back and loving every minute of it. I went to 3 of the Musicology concerts in 2004, after going 20 years without seeing him in concert (last concert was PR in '84). It was such a pleasure. I love, love, love the 3121 album. It has been on constant rotation since I downloaded the leaked version 2.5 weeks ago. My favorites so far are Fury and The Dance. I am looking forward to the 3121 tour. I even joined the club on Tuesday.I couldn't risk missing out on good seats this time. Luv u P. [Edited 3/23/06 7:51am]

sing it loud and sing it proud people! damn right I'm a fam, a fan, a purple hippie whatever you want to call it...all I know is I'm a Prince Music FREAK!
what makes me laugh is how the word "fam" is used like a derogatory slam by some folx. Like it's a racial slur or something. call me a fam, make sweeping generalized statements about me....I don't care. I don't give a rat's ass what you think about me. so there! "not a fan" yeah...ok

That word used to bother me, but it doesn't anymore. Besides, people are freaking the fuck out over the purple ticket thing. Some are on here dissing the guy and the new album, but talk about how many CDs they bought looking for that ticket.

I fall 5 years short of you Romera,I've been a fam for 23 years and I too have been helped through some tough times by his music. Every week I discover something new in the Prince world, its been a fantastic journey so far and one that I hope I can travel on for many years to come. Prince has quite literally been the soundtrack to my life and I'm as purple as they come! Time is a trick....
