3121 is a phat piece of Pop

I am really feeling this record...

I will say it again it is clearly stronger record than Musicology which was solid as a whole. There is no comparison between 3121 and Rave and NPS two similar albums.

3121 is P's strongest Pop record since Diamonds and Pearls and its better than that record.

Tracks 1-8 are very very strong...I think the final 4 songs tail off in my mind but hey thats me. They are good (the last 4 songs) In fact the last 4 songs are better than all but 3 or 4 songs on Musicology but really 3121 - Fury in just outstanding Pop mastery

Lastly if you don't shake your ass when P says "shake that thing come on...bounce it baby" then you don't have a pulse. Because at that point he has worked "Love" up to a fever pitch. Just a great dance song

Finally a full disc that not only I don't skip through...but one I would play in front of anyone and not be embarrassed. I even have gotten over the ridiculously cheesy chorus from "Lolita" that song is funky and unbelievably catchy at the same time. This boy knows how to write a pop record. Its his answer for Hey Ya but the difference is P writes songs like that in his sleep.

Regardless how it charts and it will do well its first couple of weeks...doesn't matter because this is the joint we've been waiting for!!!

Thanks P!

Nope.

3121 is a Pop Prince, but it isn't Pop Culture.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Have you ever listened to "Sign O the Times?" 3121 might be better than Gwen Stefani, but it aint Princes best or even close.

P hasn't come out with a record that you could listen to from beginning to end since Sign...get over yourself.

And comment on what I say not what you think I am saying. This is the strongest record in a long long time for Prince from beginnng to end

Its been a minute

"Lolita" is as corny as it gets, it reminds me of something on the Vault like "Sarah" but that cd was much better than this. Also the chords on Lolita are similar to "I Wanna Be Your Lover" but I dare you to play that song and then put on "Lolita" it sounds like an iMac with garageband.

your entitled to think what you want but you lose a bit of credibility when you say The Vault is a better CD than 3121....I mean thats just insane

I think prince is a great album from beginning to end. I could listen to it straight through better than just about any other album. SOTT is a great album but you won't find me among those that hold it up as some holy grail, either. I think TGE and Come were, also, very consistent albums.

Anyway, I agree that 3121 is pretty strong, throughout. BL&B is about the only moment that really makes me want to reach for the skip button. It's easily his most satisfying single disc in a decade.

Agree w/Alexandernevermind. 3121 is a complete Pop record
the best CD P has put out since TRC, but the best Pop record
as a whole since D&P. I aint lying.

I was listening to "love" today, I'll be damned if that isn't the same production and cheese of Elisa Fiorillo's "On the Way UP" or something off Emancipation... aww lahd...

Still a good, fun song with an addictive chorus and some tight rhythm guitar. And nice lyrics, IMO.

3121 is not better than Emancipation or The Gold Experience. I think this is Princes's strongest album since New Power Soul.

I dont think so. "the vault" has a jazzy, live band swing sound to it. very sophisticated, well produced and arranged. I love it.

But its personal taste. Its obviously not a pop album is it. For me, "th vault" is much closer to where I am with music today, than synth pop.

3121 is a pop album.very hard to compare. and no,u dont lose cred for liking the vault.

I love it - 3121? I like it.

I agree with all the points. New Power Soul was my last favourite too. I'm not that crazy about 3121 but it's my favourite since then.

Unfortunately, it isn't even growing on me as much as I had hoped for. I mean, when I was younger I was severely, clinically disappointed by all the new Prince records I heard. Especially TGE and Emancipation, and they really grew on me after dozens of successive listens. But the turning point was NPS for me -I just knew from the first listen that this record was never going to win my heart over. Same thing here - 3121 contains better songs than most Prince albums since his 80s heydays, but there's very little stylistically or emotion-wise that I could latch onto. The record just...

Has the dullest sound ever on a Prince album. confused

I AGREE, however the song '3121' is funky but not for the radio.

Just like "Black Sweat" is now history.

Uptempo, Funky tunes first, "Love", "The Word", "Fury", "Beautiful...", "Lolita", "The Dance"

I say do not release the beautiful but weakest songs for Radio
like "3121","Incense and Candles", "Satisfied", "Get on the Boat"

He already released "Te amo Corazon" and "Black Sweat" and Not much Air Play.

We are buying this album for the strongest tunes

"Love", "The Word", "Fury", "Beautiful...", "Lolita", "The Dance"

The man will make his choice anyway, but a Voice in the crowd can still be heard.

singles on the radio will not necessarily drive this albumn or its success...I think thats pretty clear. Word of mouth, and Universal marketing strategy is goin gto drive a lot of it. Hoepfully the radio part will come...Lord knows there are radio friendly songs here including Black Sweat which should be all over top 40 radio, Love and Incense and Candles which are all POP/RB flavored records and damn good ones. Fury is clear a Po rocker that will have an even tougher chance of getting played because aren't beeing played widely and programmers playing that kind of music aren't playing Prince. But perhaps radio catches the fever if atfter 2 or 3 weeks this album is still at #1 or perhaps even top 5 or 6.

In any case thats a huge if...and would only be icing. This album will sell regardless of it P has radio hits

"Love", "The Word", "Fury", "Beautiful...", "Lolita", "The Dance"

The man will make his choice anyway, but a Voice in the crowd can still be heard.
