pathetically, he is . . . . he was better off staying aloof, rude, and buried in The Park -- hobnobbing with celebutards is a rough way to stay relevant.

what's great about him is that he isn't afraid to try new stuff.
i'd be disappointed if he kept using the same old formula for record sales.

let him express himself musically in whatever way he wishes and appreciate the genius in the man!

What new stuff?? This album is so derivative and bland for my taste...

Man, I sure wish Prince had some talent. Seriously, this is tiring. Kinda like the revolutionary, hip album..The Rainbow Children. No really, he shouldnt try to sell records..or reintroduce his music to a new generation by promoting a new CD. He should probablymake a CD of fart sounds and release it to the masses. It would be different. Would that make his music not derivative? Enlighten us on what he should do next to make millions and get music into new fans hands.

I thought the rumor that prince Broke his HIP was put to rest.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

TRC may not have sold millions of records but he was true to himself in that record and that's what really matters for an artist, not selling out to sell millions of records...

I can't believe what I'm reading here.

What the hell is the matter with you people?

He expended a lot of energy with Gold and the like. He wasn't "trying to be hip". He was doing things musically that Dr. Dre couldn't/wouldn't dream of doing (you know, like picking up an instrument).

Since then he's been biding his time. He said it himself "The only way to 'push the envelop' these days is to not push the envelop." He's been doing the jazz thing for years, learning, expanding, doing what he has always done. That being never resting. Now to be honest,I didn't care for it. I didn't care for Rainbow Children, or NEWS, or NPS. But who cares? He enjoyed it.You could tell he was happy playing it, so I was happy for him, I wasn't bitter like some of you seem to be.

Now look what he's doing! On 3121 he's incorporating all the stuff he's learned in the past few years into a funkier package. If you don't hear it,then you're not listening. He is right now ahead of the curve like he always has been. Just the premise to this discussion is so far from reality it's laughable.

Open your ears people. This thing has more textures than most of you are hearing/giving it credit for.

Problem is its too R&B and not FUNK enough.

I expected a FUNK cd , less pop/r&b.

He'll succeed in his agenda however.

"Sell out" is a cop out term used by those who do not have the talent or ability to make millions by selling music to the masses. Im also glad that you know what is true to Prince. The more TRC's he makes, the less moey he takes in.

I think he's trying to get the money in one huge shot so he can go back to making NEW music again.

But then again there's talk about him releasing the acoustic hits CD later this year...

So I figure 2008 before I can hope for something beautifully strange.

yes Prince has always been cool. He doesn't have to try. But I guess sometimes he gets insecure or doubts himself like we all have the tendency to do and he does something that I really don't think is "him". But when he is just being himself it is obvious why so many people look up to him.

And he is so well-respected by his contemporaries as well... doesn't have many rivals, really.

Just read Boy George's bio, and at least three times he mentions trying to meet Prince in one circumstance or another... but never manages to do so. lol Prince has always been a legend!

Duran Duran's bio reads much the same, RE their esteem of Prince.
