how many teens you know who are talking about it Not many but who had the number one album a few months ago....Barry Manilow. Older people buy CDs and while I don't think Prince has that old of a fanbase, I think they are rapid. I also think that the fact that the "Black Sweat" video has gotten a lot of video play on VH1 and MTV (granted, when nobody is watching), that some younger people will buy the disc....possibly more than bought "Musicology". I'm almost certain it will at least crack the top ten!

You are right..But I wouldn't say MTV and VH1 are playing the video when nobody is watching it...You can see "Black Sweat" almost anytime of the day on the other MTV channels, and on the home MTV station from 8 to 11 am...And on VH-1 top 20, which comes on twice a day...Now radio is another story...(LOL)

wtg! i work with youth almost every day, and not one of them has talked about this album... nice to know that Prince (and Universal/Motown) has been able to stir up this kind of excitement with 3121, and without the big music-buying teen audience

The same reason every other country is? British bookies take bets on who will top the British Singles Chart during Christmas week. It's not just an American phenomenon. And Prince is actually helped on the charts by having an older audience. Those are the people who go out and buy CDs. That much-sought-after teen audience just downloads what they want. That's the reason so many older artists have seen a renaissance on the (album) charts the last few years.

Sure every country has charts, but when you look across these forums, there does seem to be a particular U.S. obsession with them. If its not the chart position, its talk about all the different tracks that should be released to a million and one different chart type formats. We must have had at least ten threads discussing the progress (or lack) of Black Sweat in the U.S. The commercial side seems to have taken over! .
