Fury - Not even as good as Cinnamon Girl Having never heard the SNL version, I have to say I think Fury leaves a lot to be desired. In my opinion it's the only truly weak track on the album. It has such a lacklustre feel. And if such a thing is possible I'd have to say I even prefer Cinnamon Girl to Fury.
The album on the whole though is terrific especially Lolita, the Word and 3121. I'm testing postive 4 the funk

As of right now, I agree with you, but mainly because I had already seen the SNL performance. The "3121" version isn't nearly as guitar-heavy as the SNL performance, and seems to be the weaker for it.

there are songs on 3121 that might not be really good, i admit but overall it's a cool album with solid songs, and where this album leaves something to be desired, at least it doesn't make me cringe even once. musicology made me cringe multiple times start to end and that said, "cinnamon girl" is one of the songs that makes me cringe most. especially the 'chorus' is shudderingly teenage diary. fury is a good solid song with some cool guitarwork and some nice vocal workouts. the freshness and joyous vibe coming off it makes it worth a dozen cinnamon girls imo. but to each their own. the way i like fury is obviously the way you guys like cinnamon girl. and that's cool. wouldn't be cool if everyone liked and hated the same things. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Are u all kidding? Fury punches Cinnamon Girl's chest in, rips out her heart and tosses it on the floor. Fury kicks ass. Cinnamon Girl doesnt have anywhere near the sheer explosiveness and attitude. Im shocked at u guys.

How I wish I could agree! The synth line in Fury kind of reminds me of the way I do laps when I'm swimming: I get to the end of the pool and then I'm like, oh no, here I go again. I've been listening a lot to the Gold era stuff recently and I think Fury basically lacks the band feel of kick ass tracks like Interactive. I'm assuming it sounded a whole lot better with a band playing it on SNL I'm testing postive 4 the funk

I'm assuming it sounded a whole lot better with a band playing it on SNL Prince was pure magic doing Fury on SNL. It does sound a little more subdued on the disc but its still a hot hot track. It certianly comes from the same family of rip roaring rock anthems like Interactive and I Like It There. Keep listening, maybe you'll be turned on!

I'm just speculating here... but perhaps it's under consideration (if not already selected) for release as a single. If so, I think Prince had to turn up the "pop" and turn down the "rock." Sure, the SNL performance was incredible, but a studio version like that would probably be too guitar-heavy for the radio stations that would be most interested in playing a new Prince song. FURY is off the chain. So much so that everytime I type it, its always capitalized!
Oh and I like Cinnamon Girl too... Blue

I like Fury(the album version has grown on me, but its still no where near as good as the SNL version) Cinamomon Girl is a decent song, but i would rate it below Fury

It's so weak on the album...reminds me of how I felt when I heard the Endorphin Machine on the Gold Exp album....oh boy... why would he do that to such an wicked track.

you guys crack me up, fury is a great song! Along with "the word" probably the only classic prince track on the album

They're my feelings exactly. loved the SNL version, was shocked at the album version (when it was leaked) but having the real CD really brings the song out more. It's definately a grower. Not too bad at all. Way better than cinammon girl anyway.

Really funny, i don't know the album-version of fury yet.
But i believe it is amazing, that a lot of people say that the SNL performance was guitar driven. That is untrue. It is really keyboard driven. Perhaps the guitars are lower in the album mix. but the guitars are not THAT strong in the live performance (exept the solos). btw: cinnamon girl has an "ok" melody. But the mix is weird. And the keyboards don't got a great sound...

I'd say if you don't think it's that great, that's fine. Don't force yourself into liking something just because it's Prince. Yeah, it may not sound good, but spin it, beat yourself over the head with it another 50 times, it'll at least become familair then. No hard feelings.

The production of Fury is so dated (in a bad way) that it is really showing Prince up.
Cinnamon Girl all the way. Such a good beat and bass line. .

That is tehmost joke post I ahve ever seen.
Fury is far and away a better track, and like I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, on this CD, perfect rock pop! Idiotic post to say Cinnamon Girl is better - that is very weak pop in comparison! DOh. You are just trying to be clever, and it don't work!

Fury is just yet another in a list of prince rock songs that sounds worse on record when compared to live versions.
Bambi The Cross Electric Chair Joy In Repetition Love Thy Will Be Done Endorphinmachine Dolphin If id ever seen him perform So Far So Pleased or Cinamon Girl live, id probably think they were better songs, and that the studio versions sucked ass too (as it is, i just think they're pretty weak songs). I think the problem of prince doing rock in the studio is that theres a temptation to either underplay it (bambi, Fury, the Cross), or over do it (Endorphin Machine). Another thing you probably should remember is that when prince has and audience in front of him, he's buzzing - is completely alive - and this will affect his performance. Maybe he just cant muster that energy alone in a studio. I do think he should have seen sense to record it with a complete band though. Also, Fury shits all over Cinamon Girl. I haven't been so instantly taken by a prince song since i heard I Love U But I Cant Trust U.

It sounds like "Damned If I Do Pt. II" to me... IMHO it's one of the weaker songs on the 3121 album...

Fury is not weak on 3121.It's just not that mutch guitar in it, but it still works. But I like the SNL per4mance mutch better. [Edited 3/22/06 3:05am]
