5 Hidden Gems

If you wanted to pick 5 Prince tracks that are sorta hidden away and in need of a wider audience or appreciation, which ones would you choose?

These are my 5. Songs that I love and are among his best, in my opinion, but that don't seem to get much discussion or attention. If I were trying to convert people to Prince's music without focusing on hits, these are the tracks I would choose.

1 - Pheromone.

Very dark stripped down funk. Love the vocals and the production.

2 - Into the Light/I Will

Beautiful duo. One of Prince's strongest melodies.

3 - My Computer

An interesting and very cool song, especially by Emancipation standards.

4 - Shockadelica.

I'm not sure if any of his 80's work is overlooked by die-hards, but a song like "Shockadelica" would open the eyes of some folks who only know Prince for the hits. Wickedly funky track.

5 - She Loves Me 4 Me.

One of the most sincere and lovely ballads he has done. Great breezy feel to it.

I think Joy in repetition and we can Funk are taken for granted because alot of us, um, may have ,um heard them before the official release.
Come the ahem, unreleased version , is luscious too.
I have high hopes for versions of Cross the line and Heaven in better quality finding their way to my ears.

As for bootlegs. In the words of Grandmaster flash, ddddon't do it!

For released,
something in the water,
Around the world in a day,
The Beautiful Ones
The Ballad of Dorothy parker
Come on

all do something that makes me stop what I'm doing and drift into the middle distance.
there are others, but you started with 5, so, I continued.

2 - Into the Light/I Will Beautiful duo. One of Prince's strongest melodies.

My God, I'd completely forgotten about this one! As soon as I'm done on this, I'm playing it!

I would also like to add "When You Love Somebody" coz there is a great little funk groove at the end that has NOTHING to do with what you hear at the start of the song. It's great!
