Well I have no problem with Prince not using profanity in his lyrics nowadays but yes I don't like it when he changes songs he has written twenty years ago. Changes the whole meaning of the song.

But Larry as a person seems like he has good energy. biggrin

Might be
But when performing with Prince in the late 90's
it seems he always wanted to be in the spotlight performing Everyday People , I Wanna Take You Higher , etc
That was annoying , people came to see Prince not Larry

lol Oh no I don't think so. Prince seemed to WANT to showcase Larry.

Why do people hate Larry? He seems like a sweet man.

I don't hate him. I just don't like him. When I first saw him in concert with Prince in the late '90's. I just got this really weird vibe from Larry. Like he was trying to live through Prince or something. It creeped me out and I don't creep out easily.

I think Prince thought Larry deserved a revival. The bloke is a funk legend after all. My first experience of him live was an enjoyable one. Larry was truly great at Brixton '98 wandering thru the crowd with his bass.

It isn't Larry's fault Prince decided to change lyrics, it's the doctrine within the religion that Prince perhaps maybe felt he had to rigidly stick to, Prince should have just put those so called 'offending' songs to bed. Sad about 'Peach' (i have the copenhagen soundboard aftershow) but there are plenty of classics he never performs anymore anyway. shrug

If you are saying Turning JW saved Prince's Life, you are more delusional the craziest Prince Fanatic.

Nothing saves a life execpt one's own life force.

You can't say without turning to a religion Prince would have died/killed himself. Because it didn't happen. Such bunk is bull.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

That's not necessarily true. None of us know the extent of the turmoil Prince was going through at that point in his life but we do know there was indeed turmoil. So turning JW could have very well saved his life! We'll never know but to completely dismiss it as a possibility is just naive.

What's to hate? Here's larry with Graham Central pre-Prince playing a song called Pow. Pretty corny song, but the bass sounds good.

I'll add my twocents. Just a thought...Larry couldn't have "changed" Prince or gotten him into the JWs unless Prince wanted to be. Nobody can be made to do anything unless they are willing to do so. Everyone knows that Prince is in control of Prince and that if he didn't want to study and become a JW he wouldn't have.

I first thought it could be about the fan sites, but on closer inspection it seems to be about someone closer.

I dont want to sound 'preachy' but there are some things on the org that are just rituals. Most seem to do it, without thinking why they do it. To name a few:
- Dissing Larry Graham
- Saying 'Jughead' is the worst Prince song ever
- Commenting on Tommy Barbarellas hair-flips
- Dissing Tony M(osley)

I just observe it, and i often find it very annoying, because it often isnt about the arguments used, but about the lame ideas: everyone is dissing Larry, i should too..., everyone hates jughead, i guess i should do also...

Every time this kind of discussions end in some kind of nihilistic 'consensus': Larry is crap, Jughead is crap, etc... It fills time, but whats the purpose? did you express your own view? is it funny? I mean, its so fucking unrewarding. I mean..when a Prince-outsider is reading these kind of discussions.. they would probably walk further, grinning, thinking: losers

After reading this entire thread here are my two cents (like anyone cares)

I really do think that Love is about fans and that one line is aboutLarry Graham. As you can see folks here have a really hard time excepting the fact that Prince (through Larry Graham) got a lot closer to Jehovah.

We always have something to say whether negative or positive, and we say that we love P. He gets us high in the middle of the night (12:00 am shows)...And you all know that if you met Larry Graham you would smile in his face and talk about him behind his back.

In the song "The Word" P talks about being afriad. So Mike G what are you so afraid of? P went through a rough spot loosing his child and then wife. Whether he cheated or she cheated that doesn't matter. A loss is a loss. The bible is a great place to pull inspiration and strength and once you delve in you find yourself wanting more and more which brings you closer to God. The closer you are to God the more you realize that some of your lyrics are a little to risque and you no longer feel comfortable singing them. As you know Prince has always had a relationship with God. Now i believe that he wants to please God.

So anyway, those are my thoughts...
