P and the charts

Why are all you fams/fans so concerned about the top40 charts?
It's not as if the album is going to be better becuz its at #1 or at #200.
Honestly, i wish him all the success in the world, but i would hate to think that P was now all of a sudden concerned with the charts and trying to produce music to fit that formula.

It would seem that is exactly what he is trying.
I remember posts when people would say that they would love to see Prince being a commercial success again. They were loads of orgers jumping down their throats saying "get a grip, Prince doesnt want to be commercial again"(you know who you are!).
When quite clearly he was dying to be a commercial success once more.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

For one thing, doing well in the charts means that you are popular in that particular country. So you are more likely to tour there! So for very selfish reasons, it is better if Prince has chart success.

Purple Rain was a success the world over.....It was 1991 when Prince first came to Australia.

Yeah, but Australia - small population, far away = not many tours by Prince!

As a fan,I think it's normal to be concerned about the charts. We all want our favorite artists to do reasonably well. No,it doesn't affect the way I enjoy the music (some of my favorite albums were commercial flops),but it's still fun to keep an eye on the charts.

If you look at the programme for the Purple Rain tour it was planned as a World Tour.
I dont know why it fell through though.
