Have you ever taken a break? Have you ever taken a break from listening to Prince?
Have you ever reached saturation point and vowed to not listen to him for a year/5 years/ever again? Do you ever think "I need to explore what else is out there rather than deepening and narrowing my obsession with this one artist!"- knowing all the while that prince is your favourite artist, but just needing some time apart... Tell me your stories, tell me about the fallow periods that you use to keep prince's music fresh...

I took a five year break when C&D came out. At the time I had lost interest in whatever Prince had to do/say.
But now I'm back! - [This message was edited Mon Jul 15 18:48:08 PDT 2002 by Zthe9s] _________________________________________

for personal reasons, i didn't listen to Prince or follow his career at all for almost all of the '90s. but it wasn't because i was sick of his music or him or anything like that. i just needed to distance myself from him/his music for awhile.
when i got back into the whole Prince scene again (in approximately 2000), it was great fun "rediscovering" all the old music i remembered from years ago, and catching up on all the new stuff i'd never even heard. rather overwhelming, actually, with all the music that'd been released, and with everything that had transpired in Prince's career and life. i'm really glad to be "back" in the Prince fold again (VERY glad!), but i don't really regret the break i took. i learned a lot of things about life, and myself, and music in general, during that time that helped me appreciate Prince's talent more, and gave me a better perspective on him and his music.

Exactly! Much better than I could have explained it. _________________________________________

another dumb question. Why would anyone have to take a break from Prince? Listening to other kinds of music can be done if you are serious about it. I dont miss anything Prince does and I have a thorough knowledge of veariou genres of music. I realize that I am the exception to the average music listener but anything that is good can be moedrated if you want to. If you dont, who cares. Play Prince til the fucking wheels fall off. Get anew set and start playing Prince again. Fuck a break!

Considering that I have only been a true fan of Prince for less than a year, I'd have to say no... I mean, like, where is the sun?

Yep, when I was living out in Seattle in the early-mid 90s, I was into the music scene there and didn't listen to him much. I'm still catching up on the stuff I missed out on then, in fact! Anything after 'Come' isn't nearly as familiar to me...
It happens off and on...eventually I'll always come back to his fold, but I think it makes sense to go listen to others--I appreciate him more when I come back

from 1989-1992 i took a break. I hated that whole period, wasnt interested in what he was doing. Ironically it was the critically slated Come album that got me back into him.

Mid 80's to the mid to late 90's. I stopped with Parade and came back when Emancipation was released. Boy, did I miss a lot!
