[Discuss 3121 cd here. All other threads will be locked and redirected here] He gives thanks to Jehovah. When was the last time he gave thanks to his fans? I'm not having a go at him, just curious... he always used to thank "u". Join npgmc find out how much he cares about u. Or better yet work 4 Him, with a contract u have to get a lawer to review to get to the bottom of it , only to find out the balls of it is He is above u as a human and He is SPECIAL AND CONNECTED TO (AT THAT TIME THE LORD) AND U MUST DO CERTAIN THINGS THAT MAKE U QUESTION THE DUDES SANITY!!! I legally (by being binded by that contract ) can't get into specifics, but I don't think being a J.W. has changed Him but possibly made Him worse!!!Let's put it this way, if u happen to meet Him on the wrong day, being a huge fan,U may be heart-broken and treated like a sub-human. The TRUTH IS just that TRUTH. I have no axe to grind, with the exeption that all should b treated as u would want to b treated, and u need not b religious to apply this in your life. DAC

I think 3121 is a classic. I loooove Prince and always will, but I've had a patchy relatinonship with him ever since 'Thieves in the Temple' which somehow was for me the first sign that he is not infallible... But this one I love. 3121 yes

Just heard it today....and I have one main opinion above others: if Prince wants a hit, "Incense and candles" should be heavily promoted. It´s the only one with tru commercial potential, although it´s not my fave.

i know i will get a lot of heat from all my fellow prince lovers but let's get real for a minute,u never be able to take prince's live performances away, but as a songwriter he is shot like a washed up boxer,i mean i can't believe that u people with delicate ears allways fall for the same trick, this new record is simply not cutting it just like the rest off the 90's stuff maybe 3 good track's per record that seems to be prince's achievement,i remember a time when i had not to skip song's on my man's cd,so ,conclusion! from ur reaction's u and the man will blame the label again for failure because mark my word's this record will do as bad as musicology and not fly,but what prince gave us on the sign o the time record his best by the way,parade,1999,lovesexy,purple rain etc it is allways like every time they try to hype a new R&B singer as the new stevie wonder but there is only one and only a human beeing with incredible depth,if u wanna check out what i mean listen to van hunt's first record i bet u,u will not skip one song just like good ol d'angelo i'm out, peace olly

1.3121- SKIP, can't handle it... the lyrics are just annoying, haven't made it past a minute or so of it...
2. Lolita- bugs me. I was really curious about it too b/c y'all keep talking about it but SKIP... 3. Te Amo Corazon- I skip it only b/c I've heard it so much before the album was out & I just wanna hear the new stuff & stuff I really love like: 4. Black Sweat- LOVE IT, repeat like a mutha... 5. Incense and Candles- It's cool, a little cheeky but I like it... 6. Love- Grows on me more & more - doesn't anyone think it's hilarious that he does an MJ-esque scream @ 4:08?? That shit cracks me up 7. Satisfied- reminds me too much of On the Couch & Aretha's Dr. Feelgood (one of the lines is delivered just like hers). I do like it though, any song that says "I'm gonna sink this thing like a buried treasure" is cool w/ me 8. Fury- I like that he kept it as simple as the SNL performance (though his vocal was better on the show), great track... 9. The Word- I don't wanna call this my fave on the album (Black Sweat has that sewn up) but I love this song! The delicate delivery punctuated by the acoustic guitar, the melody - I can see him going full on gospel w/ this one. I wish he'd found another metaphor for the chorus instead of the spider thing. It's so beautiful otherwise, the spider concept seems tacked on/just doesn't flow as well as the other lyrics But very very nice song, I hope others like it too. Y'all know damn well if he was talking about fuckin' some chick you'd be all over it, GREAT song... 10. Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed- cute song... 11. The Dance- this is the biggest grower of the album for me. I really liked the other, emptier version & initially thought this one was too full. But I really dig it now, it's so fucking grand. I picture him in one of his special robes surrounded by a ring of fire, hanging from a trapeze w/ thunder & rain & lightning crashing down on him It's great, but I do giggle @ some of the screams, shit is comedy - over the top comedy 12. Get On The Boat- can't make it past 30 seconds of this one... All in all it's okay. Black Sweat certainly had me AMPED, I thought he was gonna have deadly shit all over it but Te Amo should have clued me in. I like a lot of songs but I'm not wowed. Maybe I'll discover the songs I'm skipping later & feel more satisfied. Solid purchase but Prince is a fucking genius & this is him coasting... . [Edited 3/26/06 6:49am]

I enjoyed this album more than I thought. I love his bandwork sound, so I was disappointed when a friend of mine said it had few live band moments. But I ended up enjoying it. Just have some comments (dont know if u will agree)
1) One of the things that impressed me about 3121 is that, in terms of ´following trends´, he is doing it pretty well! I mean, Rave was intended for teens, but it already sounded dated back then. Some songs on 3121 sound fresh, they could really be played on the dancefloor (like ´Incense and Candles´ and ´Black Sweat´). Half of this album feels very modern to me. 2) I was disappointed with ´Lolita´. We are not in the 80s anymore. I don´t know why Prince relied on a dull production on this one. Same thing about ´Fury´. I love this song, but the live version is 100 times better. Why so many keyboards on a rock song? It was cool with ´Let´s go crazy´ but it was 20 years ago. 3) I liked ´Get on the boat´ more than I thought. Ok, no catchy melody, he could released lots like these, but what a groove! Much better than ´Life O The Party´. Is it Prince on bass and drums? (I dont have the original CD yet - I will buy it when it´s released here in Brasil). 4) My faves from the songs I didnt know are: Love and The Word. Well, too bad it´s a short album. Makes me want more. Like a critic said, he seems to be in peace with the Prince of the past (Black Sweat, 3121, Lolita) and still making some modern music. Let´s see what comes next.

Bought it today.
Once again, I can't stand the cheesed out production. Black Sweat is not bad. The Word is so so. The only track I listened to several times is The Dance. I kind of have this love hate feeling for it. I hate the spoken word and some of the choices of synth, but I really like the melody, the great chord changes and the strings. This could be a killer track with better production. Overall, it's not an album I'll be listening on the regular.

I almost totally agree with everything you say on this review, and yes I just heard the MJ scream in "Love", I was like hey thats MJ!. I also heard today the end of Beautiful.. thats a cool jam at the end, I love it when he jams and lets the music play like he did on most of the 1999 songs.. ______________________________________________

I totally agree - 3121 is one of the best songs Ive heard in a long time! Absotively, I keep playing: In this order 3121 The Word Love Incense and Candles OVER and OVER, AGAIN and AGAIN. 3121 - is the funkiest song in a long long while. It has the same feel as if Irresistable Bitch married Pheromone and 3121 would be the little funky baby. I love the lyrics. You feel as if you're walking into a kinky little funky party. Like you don't know what might happen. I have to find some champange glasses with chocolate handles - I love that line. The Word - Damn U Prince and that funkin' chorus. I can't get it outta my head, You little evil musician. Love - When I first heard it I didn't think I liked it much. 2nd listen set me straight. I love it when he starts to skate... "AHH, Bounce It Baby". This song would make a great extended version. As would Black Sweat. Incense and Candles - The Roger/Zapp voice manipulation is not new, but I LOVE IT. I really dig the way he does it. I could almost hear R. Kelly doing this one. By the way, he can't hold and incense or a candle to P. I saw 3121 on sale at Best Buy for 9.99. Is that the price of Prince's candle?

Even people who dislike this one must admit it´s the only one that could compete with Beyonces and Pussycat Dolls on a dancefloor. If the Dj plays ´Lolita´ or ´Get on the boat´ people would leave the dancefloor and go to the bar. ´Black Sweat´ is very funky, but not so ´friendly´ as Incense.

I bought it over here in Germany on Friday, when it was only released.
"3121" the superfunkyprince-y song..the best..califragisexily going down, "Lolita" after 3121 a weak impression on me after the 1st hearing (liked the bad girl in "My Medaillon" better...) [and deliberately or by accident alluding to where Lolita comes from, Vladimir's Lolita: "Imagine me on the tip of Ur tongue" he sings and THE famous beginning by Humpert Humpert: "Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta." "Te Amo Corazón" pretty much better than the 1st time in December, nice music. (maybe as different from the other songs on the album as "Do u lie" & "Under the cherry moon" were on Parade.) "Black Sweat" already liked it before the album. supercool lil funky thingy ! P Minneapolis Style! "Incense And Candles" & "Love" liked "Love" better, just the superb chorus is so superb! Although in the beginning I waited how it would develop but then it's just great. "Incense and candles" isn't so strong, weaker impression, but liked the 2nd part "Satisfied" liked that song pretty much, the shortness, just another good Prince blues... "Fury" weak impression after the 1st time when I liked "The Word" better but not as much as "Love". "I.a.C." category I think "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed" good song, funky ending "The Dance" in the beginning weak but the longer it lasted the better it got and suddenly liked it in the end ("At least they won't want 2 make love like U do / On the stairs" he cries whereas in "It" he cried "In a bed, on the stairs, anywhere, allright") "Get On The Boat" funky good time and fun! (But could have been also a non-album b-side track for a single, and as the last song here, another freaky one that reminds you of the brilliant first track on the album) After the first hearing it's got very good songs on it and some that can grow on you. Very accessible and easy, (just like the songs' titles kinda that are very general and also easy and everywhere to understand (The Dance - Lolita - Love - The Word - Incense And Candles -etc.)) GOOD ONE! [Edited 4/9/06 11:58am] Get sexy sex, get funky at... The ORANGE Park - Funky President, people, it's bad!

Oh, I think this cd is just great! I love BS, Lolita, Fury, Love... To me its Prince back on top where he belongs! Ok, I'd loved it even more if there was a ballad less and a hot, funky song more, but otherwise
Can you believe, in a review I read in some magazine it stood that 3121 wasn't a masterpiece like Diamond and Pearls. D&P a masterpiece? Like if that was his best album... But is it just me or do you guys also think Tamar is a little annoying?... Can't really say why though... [Edited 3/26/06 6:14am]

In those days, nobody was running around in their underwear, singing about giving head and jerking a guitar off in everybody's face. So he did it. Nowadays everybody in their mother wants to be dirty and it's no rebellious thing. So now he's got another spin on it, and it's just as frustrating to people now as the black bikini briefs were to others in 1980! the You know you got to. Yeah. The dirty minded player pimp in him is alive and well. It's interesting how Prince is writing so many songs about a potential other woman. It's a level of honesty he hasn't revealed before and it makes me believe he's taking his new marriage seriously. He seems to be having fun with the idea of cheating without actually cheating.

Alright, I gave it quite a few spins now and haven't read everyone's reviews but Im ready to place my own. This CD is great, maybe classic and definately the most solid album he's put out since The Gold Experience. I don't skip a thing.
3121 - Funky as hell, Camille is back, nice opener. "Don't cha Wanna Come..3121" Lolita - I love this track..the groove is infectious, also love the chant at the end..this could be a radio hit. Te Amo Corazon - Didn't like it for a first single, but works on the album. Black Sweat - Hot song. Someone said Kiss's baby brother and I agree. Not a classic like Kiss but a great song nevertheless. Incense and Candles - I like this song too..its catchy and haven't heard P rap in a while Love - Nice chorus, good song Satisfied - Not my fav but better than On the Couch and nice that is short and doesn't overdo it Fury - Great rock song, nice guitar The Word - Usually don't like his preachy songs but this one is catchy, the groove and the chorus have you repeating Beautiful, Loved and Blessed - Nice song, kinda funky..don't know if I'll buy Tamar's album but if she has more songs like this on her album probably will The Dance - I never listened to Chocolate Invasion so don't know the prior version but I love this song..the end reminds me a lot of The Beatiful Ones and can see him performing the hell outta this one Get On the Boat - Love the funk of it but not so much the lyrics. nice to hear Sheila and Maceo gettin down
