Petition For A Prince CBS Special!!!!

I'm so tired of seeing Celine Dion and All these boy bands and Micheal Jackson perform a free televised concert on CBS!

How come Prince won't do this!?!
Just recently Marc Anthony played a live set on CBS.

I mean for years he {Prince} and the industry have used oneanother...he's sold records {millions} and he's been played on the radio, of course they made their share, how come Prince Won't let the NPGMC Soar on National T.V.?

How many think Prince should perform a concert on CBS?
Perhaps Half the hits and the other half NPGMC Stuff!

Lets get a petition to get a Prince T.V. Special; so that the world can experience his genius on a stage again, in front of the masses, Free and not tied to any contractual obligations of a record label, what a good way to promote his latest venture, NPGMC!

Some kids don't know who Prince is, and Some don't know he even tours or records anymore, how can we change this!?

PRINCE You gotta do this for the sake of your name and for us, who want to see you on T.V. again, PPL Love you man and your making us suffer, because all the things we want to see you do, your not and when you do it, know one knows.

How about Selling Out Madison Square and taking it to CBS Live for One Night Only?

Lets Write NPGMC and Ask Our Prince to Play a Concert for us On National T.V.

uhhh...negative...if its anything like the Rave 2000 payperview...im passing...

btw: someone please tell me the name of the executive who thought a Marc Anthony special was going to be enjoyable to watch? The guy stood the whole time and faked excitement when his musicians jammed...it was rather sad to watch...

Prince was offered a national TV special for New Year's 2000, a New Millenium show. The Target Center in Minneapolis was made available to him for the venue and he was offered $1 million for one night's work.

He turned it down and instead taped a pay-per-view RAVE special at Paisley Park.

He won't do a CBS special because he would not be in control of the show.

Prince doesn't have a large enough fanbase to obtain a CBS special.

These specials have nothing to do with how good the music is, but rather the number of people who would be willing to watch. I just don't see it happening for our boy.

Disagree. Prince was given 2 nights to perform on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. That would not have been done for J.Lo, Marc Anthony, Destiny's Child, or any of the other newer pop acts who are getting specials. If Prince is interested, all he has to do is have his "people" contact CBS and he'd get a special.

This won't happen on CBS for many reasons.

All those Celine Dion, NSYNC, Marc Anthony, Shania Twain specials get re-airted on VH-1 & MTV, since CBS is owned by VIACOM which owns MTV & VH-1.
They also would want to own the T.V. rights to the specials, which Pricne would want to own.
He has ben offered specials before, such as ACT 1 93 on CBS & then a larger special on VH-1. He has turned it down over T.V. rights.

In 1991, Prince performed at Rock in Rio, which MTV owned the T.V. rights to. Prince said he would only perform if he was allowed to buy the t.v. rights back to the special. His reason beign then that he was trying out a lot of new material and did not want it to be televised yet.

The best bet would be an HBO special, which would give him the t.v. rights. But Prince is a few million selling away from getting that offer.

Prince odes things his own way, which sometimes leaves the Prince "fan" a little out in the cold cuz of how unconventional he is.

The only way he could ever get a special is if he did something like Barry Manilow or Elton John did and perform a greatest hits show. These shows were advertised as greatest shows and I don't believe either of them were able to play any new music.

CBS would not be interested in airing the first hour of the current "ONA" tour because nobody would watch it.

Also Gold how do you know that J-Lo or anyone else for that manner would not be given two nights on Leno? I highly doubt that they would even ask for this and if they did being as they are more "popular" then Prince it seems more likely the Tonight Show would be accomodating.

I'm guessing that originally Prince wanted to have the entire show such as he did on Arsenio or the Sinbad Show and Leno said "no" so Prince asked for a second night and they said yes.

These shows didn't create a buzz like the Arsenio performance did and it is doubtful that they would give him a second night again.

I don't know for sure that J Lo or anyone else would not be given two nights on Leno. But I do know that it was a very unusual for Leno to allow that. I'm thinking that if Destiny's Child, Marc Anthony or any other popular acts of today asked for that special privilege, they would be turned down.

There is a difference between having current popularity and having icon status. J Lo, Marc Anthony, Destiny's Child etc. are currently popular, but they are nowhere near being considered icons of the music industry. I just cannot see The Tonight Show having 2 nights of Marc Anthony. A network would be more than happy to host a Prince special because he has achieved a certain amount of status as an icon in the industry.

I believe that Prince could have a special if he was interested in doing one. But I do agree that it's not likely to happen because Prince would not own the rights to the show and he wouldn't be allowed to be the producer, director, arranger, floor manager, and everything else.

You're right about the TV rights. A network that retains the rights would be able to keep rerunning the special as many times as they wanted. Or they could edit a 2 show down to 30 minutes, or they could sell the show overseas. Basically, once it was filmed, Prince wouldn't have any say in how the footage would be used. So I doubt if he will be doing any network specials any time soon.

Who asks whom to perform on any of these TV networks? My guess is that artist frequently has the LEAST to say about when, where, and how long such an appearance will occur.

Whenever I see a celebrity featured on a TV talk show or something like SNL, I always ask myself - what are they trying to sell? Almost always, there's a book, movie, or new CD to promote. And I would predict that it's the publisger, studio, or record label that's booking the gig "for the artist" and negotiating the details with the TV network.

That's why we're not going to see a Prince TV special anytime soon.

I watched&Taped the Barry Manilow Show&He Performed a couple of New Songs off His Mayflower Album.that album came out within the past year.when folks have those Shows they pretty much play whatever they want.Ricky Martin added a whole lot of things on His Special.Michael Jackson did alot of things as well but He had to work out a Agreement with Jive Records or something to allow His Duet with Brittney Spears to be shown on there Duet for "the Way you Make Me Feel".Brittney's Thigh's were Juicy that Night but Damn please pull the Plug on Her Singing Live? YIKESSS!!!

That's the entire point behind it. It's extremely rare when someone guests on one without promoting something.

I don't believe Prince is considered mainstream or important enough to a company like CBS. They are only interested in ratings and sponsorship, if Prince had planned some sort of come back event when he reclaimed his name, that may have been enough of an event to get people's attention, but now i fear he's waited to long.
I do think he could do a lovely "Live by Request" on A & E though. A lot of real artists do those. It's just classier I'd say.

lol

And if it did happen, PLEASE don't let it be on CBS! That station just reeks of corny-ness.

He could break the mold & do Showtime instead of HBO, they could put it on right after Soulfood... biggrin

What would be a better idea is for him to do a MTV Unplugged type show. He could have control over what songs to play and the spin off would be a Unplugged CD.
I've always thought he would be great on this type of show.idea
