Clover Hope, N.Y.
After lingering at No. 2 for three straight weeks, James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" tops the Billboard Hot 100 this week. As reported yesterday (March 1), the U.K. singer/songwriter thus becomes the first British artist to reach No. 1 on the chart since Elton John achieved the feat with "Candle in the Wind 1997/Something About the Way You Look Tonight."

"You're Beautiful" ends the five-week run of Beyoncé's "Check on It" featuring Slim Thug, which falls to No. 2 on the Hot 100. The Blunt track also remains No. 1 on the Pop 100, Hot Digital Songs and Adult Top 40 charts.

Sean Paul's "Temperature" is the Hot 100's greatest airplay gainer, rising 4-3, while Nelly's "Grillz" featuring Paul Wall and Ali & Gipp falls 3-4 but remains atop the Hot Ringtones chart for a fifth week. Mary J. Blige's "Be Without You" holds at No. 5 on the Hot 100 and leads the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a 10th frame.

On the Hot 100, T-Pain's "I'm N Luv (Wit a Stripper)" featuring Mike Jones and Chris Brown's "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" stay put at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" (No. 8) and Ne-Yo's "So Sick" (No. 9) swap positions, while Cascada's "Everytime We Touch," the chart's greatest sales gainer, climbs 16-10 to round out the top tier.

The Hot 100's top debut belongs to Prince's "Black Sweat" at No. 60. Also new are Madonna's "Sorry" (No. 70), 50 Cent and Olivia's "Best Friend" (No. 72), Nick Lachey's "What's Left of Me" (No. 89), LL Cool J's "Control Myself" featuring Jennifer Lopez (No. 93) and HIM's "Wings of a Butterfly" (No. 97).

Josh Turner's "Your Man" claims the No. 1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart, as Brad Paisley's "When I Get Where I'm Going" featuring Dolly Parton falls to No. 2 after just one week on top. Daddy Yankee's "Rompe" notches a 14th week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart, while Lifehouse's "You and Me" leads Adult Contemporary for a seventh week.

Nine Inch Nails' "Every Day Is Exactly the Same" holds at No. 1 on the Modern Rock chart, while Nickelback's "Animals" remains atop the Mainstream Rock tally for a fifth week.

did they combine the digital single sales with the cd sales now in Billboard? because i just noticed there is no listing tor hot digital sales anymore and it says that Black Sweat is the #1 in single sales while Te Amo Corazo is #8 while i understand Te Amo being at #8 in physical cd sales because there arent that many there's no way its #8 overall in sales when u combine downloads....eeesh i miss the 80's when the billboard chart was much more simple smile

actually thats a good point mazerati, especially when considering the sales figures also releases, saying Black Sweat sold 11k and TAC sold 1k. i can imagine those being cd singles, but as we know the BS cd single hasn't been released yet, where the hell are these numbers coming from?? maybe we should ask msjamiestarr on the HQ as she posted the numbers.

Its a mystery , as I asked on another thread, there are 2 Digital Charts called Top Digital TRACKS and Top Digital SONGS. Black Sweat appears on neither. However Black Sweat is # 1 on the Hot 100 Single Sales chart. (the one that was also posted on HQ with sales of 11k).

Intersting to notice if you click on the Billboard Radio thread that posts the entire Hot 100. Some songs have a "digital" label under the title. However Black Sweat has a catalog # or someting?? Its not labeled digital.

In other words , i have no clue lol

well that makes even less sense now. how on earth has this been worked out? the american charts seem to be a right mess, and the UK charts are following suite it seems.

Mayhap we should email Billboard in that 'Ask Billboard' thing and ask them to explain it using the methods you just used?

The only way this makes sense is that there is an official 12 inch single available with the catalog number. The content of the 12 inch single is the same as the digital download of Black Sweat/Beautiful Loved & Blessed. If you go to iTunes and purchase the album then it counts towards the Hot 100 Singles Sale. If you purchase the tracks seperately then it counts towards the Hot Digital Downloads.

Black Sweat is the "featured track" on Napster. Open up Napster and it's huge on the front page.

Maybe the promotion of lack of it at radio right now is part of Universals plans

Build a buzz a download level first get it on theses various web sites and then and MTV/VH1 and then approach radio. Perhaps they are doing this on purpose

I do think that if this song is going to be a hit (and it does have the potential to be just that) that Universal is going to have to get the song on the radio. I live in Washington DC and its very unusual for Donnie Simplson (on WPGC 95.5) to not play a new Price record regardless if it isn't played by anyone else the rest of the day. I have heard it once on his show. So something is up...I just don't know what it is. Simpson played Musicology and Call My Name sometimes twice on his morning shows.

Or maybe it just won't be a hit and Universal pushing it to radio was never part of the deal? I don't know but I think the song should be doing better. Epsecially at black radio because it is a black record despite the fact that it seems Rb and hip-hop defines "black" as being thugish and everything else that Martin amd Malcolm died for black folks not to be

I just find it hard to believe that Universal can't get that song on radio stations

GOOD NEWS!

I just saw Logo's video show, "The Click List" where they have the top 10 videos as voted by viewers and Black Sweat is at number 4! For those who don't know, Logo is the new cable network for Gays and Lesbians. I'm very happy to see it that high! More proof that people are digging this tune.

well msjamiestarr replied and yes it seems hot single sales do include digital downloads, though now this just leaves us with the confusion on how a song like you're beautiful by james blunt, being downloaded around 100k a week at the moment, isn't on the top10 for single sales, whereas prince is at #1 with 11k sales?

in fact, i'm just as confused now as I've ever been!

It's falling like a rock at radio, which is why some of us haven't updated the charts. MTV, VH1 and BET have all increased plays in the past week, so the video is working better than the song (kinda like TAC).
