I would say all of them. I can't get enough! But definitely most of the songs on the "Parade" record. They are all so short, and yet they are all such great songs.

Some are mentioning songs from the Parade album. Actually half the 12 songs on that album are less than 3 minutes. And only 2 are 5 minutes or more.

Dirty Mind is a very compact album, it's only about 30 minutes and 15 seconds long. And "Sister" is less than 2 minutes. But I think it's on purpose that the song is that way. It reminds me of The Ramones who used to write and play a lot of songs that were sometimes less than 2 minutes. It's one of Prince's fiercest punk songs.

I think both albums are that way by design, albeit for different reasons.

Electric Intercourse - always felt this track was a bit of a "quicky"

Question Of You

One Song - could have been an epic. But wasn't.

Cloreen Bacon Skin - was only about half the duration it should have been.

Everyone keeps mentioning "Computer Blue", but I think that if the long version were released, then "Father's Song" probably wouldn't have been included at the end of Computer Blue, and I love "Father's Song". So I don't know if when people say it should've been longer if they're refering to Father's Song being longer or if they mean just an extended jam of Computer Blue.

When we speak of "Computer Blue," I think we all mean the entire song which includes "Father's Song" (on lead guitar) and then some. The whole 11 minute masterpiece.

Yes I agree. I also wish I could get a copy of "Father's Song" by itself on piano like it was played in the movie. I have wanted this since the movie came out. What's weird is that the sheet music to Father's Song is included in the Purple Rain book, but the song was never released even as a B-side.

Back in early '85, "Father's Song" was the first song I learned on the piano that I got to choose for myself. My piano teacher wasn't too sure about it since it was included in the Purple Rain songbook, but after I started playing it, he was all for it!

Maybe the song itself, but the spoken intro felt as long as a wagnerian epic to me.

wink @ Aero

Le Grind, you only had to spell 5 words correctly in your last post and you seem to have "buggered it sideways" 4 times.

Surely you are not this orthographically inadequate.

"Question of you" always bugged me how it was just a verse, chorus and a guitar solo. Couldn't he think of another verse?

Yeah, it'd be nice to sing along with Question of U a bit more, but I still love the song. Love 2 The 9s is the song that really annoys me with it's long rap interruption. Too bad he didn't throw in another verse or two instead. It'd be one of my all-time favs if so.

I cant believe noone has listed "Little Red Corvette." The song gets really good at the end when it's fading out. The extended version has a guitar and bass solo that is really funky.

'digital garden' just ends to abrupt.

'joy in repetition'. this one is completely finished, i know. i just get such a great feeling when i hear it (especially the version with the drum intro) and i want to stretch that feeling. so i've always wished for a 'purple rain' ending here. you know the strings in the end. like that only longer. it could work i tell you!

I've also felt this way about JIP. The same thing that the extended beginning has it could have at the end, like PR! I've always heard this in my head and wished it so.

'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore' fades out way too soon. Then Alicia Keys had to come along, twenty years later, to show Prince how to end the song properly, complete with a gospel-sounding chorus - and without an annoying frog in her throat...

I wish Prince had cleared his throat before he started recording 'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore'. Sad but true.
