Also talking about Diamonds and Pearls this song was written for the fans giving them his love don't you think not a woman.Don't you think?
Vanity had given Prince a beautiful sculpture made of diamonds and pearls. The words, I Love You were written on it, she stated that she put her heart and soul into making it. Prince was inspired by the gift so he in return wrote Diamonds and Pearls.

That is so beautiful and romantic and spiritual. Simply wonderful. How can people say he still didn't love and care for her?

That wasn't around the time the 'Diamonds and Pearls' CD came out was it? Because if it was, they were together for that long?! Or was that just a song he used afterwards? Or was it the soulmate kind of thing?

Although we'll never know 4 sure unless we hear it from Prince or the girls themselves, I suggest reading the book "Days of Wild". Prince dated several girls at the same time. 4 instance he was going with Susan Moonsie and when Vanity came in2 the picture, he was going with both of them.
"Irresistable Bitch" was about Vanity, "She's Always in My Hair" was about Jill Jones and "The Beautiful Ones" was about Susannah.

Paint a perfect picture (Prince and Vanity) Bring to life a vision in ones mind(Purple Rain) The Beautiful Ones always smash the picture (Vanity leaving) Always evertime I don't think Prince would every call Vanity a bitch.

I really can't believe the Beautiful Ones was written for Susanna not dogging her or anything ,but can you tell me when that song was written? I thought the songs were specifically written for Purple Rain. If Prince was serious with Vanity and Rolling Stone quoted his friends as saying THIS is serious they are living together . Then when did Susanna start dating him? Cause Vanity was with him I believe 4 yrs. I think I read that. I still say that Vanity was the 1 . Too bad she got so disillusined with Hollywood she had the most appeal as one of Prince's ladies. Maybe if she didn't hang out with Nikki Sixx she would have been alright. Action Jackson was Cool. And Under the Influence was a great video and song. Loved it and remember it on Bandstand. And originally she was Rick James' girlfriend and going to be in his group. Imagine . they say Prince stole her from him and that created a war. Of course I will tell you that this is all Gossip through the Grapevine.

Shortcake I am agreeing but I do think Irresistable Bitch was indeed written for Vanity. It surely was.

Vagina I'm sorry, this is were we agree to disagree. Irresistable Bitch I thought was just a funky song not really about anyone in particular.

This is my opinion. Only Prince knows who it is written for .

We can make our educated guesses and voice our opinions on this or that but of course only Prince himself and the females involved know the truth about these things and nobodys talking. Does that confidentiality clause still exist? I'm sure it does in fact I know this cause no one Talks. Boy I'd need a Muzzle Clause! Laughingly!

Let's hope "Vanity" sheds some light on this in her hopefully soon-to-be-released autobiography: Blame it on -V***y- Denise!
I like thinking that "The Beautiful Ones" was written about Vanity -- maybe he didn't want to admit it at the time. It's not exactly a macho thing to admit that you still have feelings for the girl you let get away (or however they broke up). But if it was about Susannah then isn't it possible that Vanity truly did leave Prince because "he wanted more [women]" as she stated in an '85 People Weekly interview? How could he write a song like "The Beautiful Ones" about someone else so soon after his breakup with Vanity? Unless it's about Prince's obsession with Susannah (while he was with Vanity) and Susannah's returned disinterest in him ("smashing his perfect picture," fantasy, or "vision in one's mind"). It would be terribly sad to sacrifice one beautiful lady for another, and then end up losing both "beautiful ones". So, maybe it was about both? I'm so confused. Part of me would like to know the inspiration and meaning behind every Prince song, but another part of me is afraid I wouldn't want to know.

Wow that's great. Actually you are wrong cause I want to know everything about him and the inspirations for all of his work. I still want to know everything and I know he is telling us alot lately which is great. I will always be inspired by him in a positive way. I will always Adore this man and I couldn't care less about his ex-ladies who dis him or ex-employees or anybody cause I just don't care nor do I want to hear it. He could be a Bitch on Wheels and I still wouldn't care. He's a musical Genius and if that's what it takes to create what he creates everyone should be this way. No one can ever compete with him there is only 1 Prince.

I never really understood what happened there. Heartbreaks are not easy to get over -- the thoughts consume you. He must've written many songs about Vanity. I even thought the song "Purple Rain" was about their breakup and that "17 Days" was written 17 days after the breakup. Several songs on Vanity's 1985 album seem to be about Prince and the breakup as well. It took almost 10 years for Prince to have another openly public relationship with a woman (Mayte) -- the ones inbetween were short and secretive. But the Days of Wild book mentions Prince's love for Susannah before his breakup with Vanity. This doesn't make sense to me. Did his eyes really wander away from Vanity and why? If he so easily got over Vanity, why'd he release "Orgasm" 10 years after the breakup and refer to Vanity as "she knows who she is." I can't imagine releasing my ex-girlfriend's orgasm-on-tape more than 10 years after it was recorded. My closest friends would be telling me, "Get over her already!" Why do such a thing, especially so soon after Vanity's return to Christianity? It almost seems like he was mocking her newfound purity. I'd like to think that he wasn't thinking and only released it as a work of art and nothing more -- an obvious choice for ending an album called Come.

And the beautiful ones was also written for Vanity. Vanities all is Vanity. What is that quote from the BiBle doesn't anybody read it?

Aug. '83 - "Vanity quits the film project and Vanity 6. Her relationship with Prince was over, having turned in2 an intense love-hate affair, with fierce arguments followed by passionate make-ups. If previous girlfriends had been patient and willing 2 accept that they didn't have Prince's undivided attention, Vanity wanted total commitment and would not tolerate any affairs on the side." Prince had met Susannah in May earlier that same year. I don't doubt Prince's feelings 4 Vanity but he wasn't a faithful guy.

Vanity did an interview back in 85 on BET in which she was asked would she like to get back with Prince she stated that the both of them needed to grow up in different ways before they got back together...that's what Prince is finally doing!

I thought you were talking about a verse that Prince looked at when choosing the name Vanity. "Vanity of vanities; all is vanity" is how the book of Ecclesiastes starts; though, it does end with a ray of hope: everything is vanity [worthless] unless you follow the Lord God in all you do. But I don't remember hearing anything about Prince looking into the Bible when choosing a name for Denise. I only heard that "Vanity" was more agreeable to her than the name Vagina.

He supposedly chose Vanity because he felt she was the mirror image of himself.

Ah... cool, but I always thought that was something nice to say that he came up with after naming her that. Otherwise, that's rather romantic.

That's an interesting point that you raised. There have been many women who remained in the shadows, secret girlfriends whom he never publicly acknowledged. Very few of his girlfriends make it as the public woman. His girlfriends probably have to compete against each other and then he decides who wins. The winner becomes his public woman. The loser is kicked to the curb with parting gifts like a picture of him, a video, a cassette, a jacket, and maybe a comic book
