On June 25 prince website posted a message about the song "STRANGE BUT TRUE"...being just that STRANGE BUT TRUE. Well in that particular song Prince talk about a certain woman who's the only one he gave his heart to. She's the one he fantasizes about. He says that he's trying to fill the hole that was left by her with "another". Who is this woman Prince is talking about?...Strange as it may seem, I think he is talking about VANITY...Could it be VANITY?

I used to dream about Vanity too .Appolonia also.
I think prince likes it to have taller women as he is. Can't blame him. Maybe one of the 'get off'sisters also nice..

I think it's another song about Warner Bros written to sound like a love song about a woman of his past.

For years I thought The Beautiful Ones was about Vanity -- to later find out it was about Susannah. I've ALWAYS liked Vanity -- even to this day. I wonder what Prince songs ARE about her? Vanity's Wild Animal album has at least two songs about him.

you come up with some song lyrics and the conclusion that they are about Vanity, but you don't say yourself why you think it is about her.

I think Vanity has been a great influence in Prince's life. Today she's an evangelist. I believe she is one of the main reasons Prince has embraced religion/spirtuality.

At the time Prince emancipation CD came out, Vanity made a statement about she was worried about Prince's spirit. During that same time frame Prince did an interview stating that he thought that he would marry Vanity. In the interview he talked about how he and Vanity are in the same place "spirtually". He went out of his way to express that he was okay. In the interview Prince came across as if he was hurting for Vanity...by the way I'm not a dude.

Who knows...some people fall in and out of love so many times that it becomes so hard to follow which hole is trying to be filled by who.

I believe the love of Prince's life was and always will be Vanity. He always called her his Nasty. In the song the Dark he says don't quote me though oh my Nasty why'd you have to go ? Henceforth I think Mani represents Vanity. She is the new Clean version of Vanity. He wants a woman that looks like Denise MATThews his #1 love. It is her. I am so mad at her for leaving him for Motown and Nikki SIXX. DumbASS! DumbAss! If they stayed together and she wasn't strung out at the time everything would have been different. Not so much Guilt and thinking something his fault. Nothing is his fault! People have their own minds and should use them! People should stop calling him a control freak! It sounds sinister. Remember Prince wanted to get married to her but she didn't. Just about every love song in the 80's is about her. There is NO WAY that it is about Vanity OR anyone else. Remember: Vanity had a HUGE cocaine problem and Prince hated her for that.

But why did he turn his attention away from Vanity and concentrate on Susannah? Or did he think he could somehow have both? I'd like to think that Vanity was the love of his life, but it's hard to believe he could so easily be distracted by other "loves" as well. It's too bad they're not better friends than they are now. I really think that SHE could be a good influence on him... strange but true.

I don't think that Vanity was the love of Prince's life. If he loved her, why would he not do anything for her when she was sick and nearly dying?

When a man loves a woman, he would not stand there and do nothing while the woman he loves falls down so low that she can't pick herself up. If Denise Matthews was really Prince's true love, he would have done something for her and not let their relationship break down in a dispute over money.

If Prince had loved Vanity, he would have been there when she needed someone to love and care for her. He let her fall into the gutter. That should tell you that he did not really love her.

I don't know what was up in Prince's mind or in his heart, but I do agree that in regards to what was said above, that no matter what, if you truly love and care for a person, or believe that that a person is your soulmate, you will be there for them no matter what, even if you're not with that person.

First and foremost where do you get your facts that the Beautiful Ones was written for Susannah. No way. It was written for the movie and Vanity was the original star besides Prince. And Susannah came afterward. Shelia was around in the Purple Rain days along with Appolonia. Rumors were always there that Prince liked the girls to fight over him that he liked I guess a Competition thing. Carmen also Mayte at the same time working with him. Is it a Battle of the sexes.
