what do you do with all your old prince collection?

im currently packing all my stuff up into boxes as im emigrating to NZ for good....
ive just come across about 20 old vhs prince tapes-ranging from my FIRST EVER prince video-i got it sent free by a controversy chick called vicky

it has all the jill jones, time, madhouse vids AND the full batdance(hey i was 15 without mtv-i thought it was the second coming)

love 4 another-behind the beat-sunday show

other vids-parade live,nps tour,interviews,tv clips-RAP RAP RAPEEEEDO!

muppets, oprah etc-jeez looking back the oldskool bootleggers made a mint out of me-i even spent twenty quid on the gold tour rehearsals-YEAH YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE??!!

stuff weve now all got neatly stored onto dvd

also dozens of scrapbooks i collected from 84-95-with just about every newspaper/magazine review of that timespan(yes when i was younger when a new cd/tape/vinyl dropped i BOUGHT every single newspaper,magazine-neatly snipped it and popped it in my scrapbook!)

loads of fanzines-ALL of controversy,the crystal ball(remember that???),interactive,the dawn

the thing is i THREW AWAY about 200 prince bootleg tapes a few years ago as i had em all on cd

so i guessing if anybody wants this stuff and you can pick it up-its yours!

its a wee bit sad seeing most of my bootlegs neatly stored on itunes now

i still remeber my FIRST EVER bootleg-'THE CHOCOLATE BOX'bought in durham at a record fair-a tatty wee tape but it introduced a wide eyed fanatsic aged 15 to the world of SHHHHH bootlegs

ah listening to moviestar and sussanahs pjamamas-those innocent days!

I threw out a few boxes of VHS and cassette tapes of live/TV Prince stuff a few years back.

On trash-collection day, the boxes were on the roadside, and I heard this thud, and I looked out the window and saw this group of little kids dragging the boxes down the road!!

I figure at least one or two of them were probably converted to Prince fans after they saw what was on them. lol

THINKTIMM

I remember "The Chocolate Box" it had the 1st version of of "We Can Funk"... U got 2 understand I was 14 or 15 years old... So into Prince I was so exicted 2 get it. Ur post reminds me of me... I use 2 run downtown @ the hot record store that kept these rare Prince albums behind the check out up real high I was almost 2 shy 2 ask 2 see them, because at the time 1986 - 1992 I was a youngbuck I didn't have the cash 2 pay $40 or $50 for an album (Yes I'm talking wax). I would save 4 a week or 2 and go and maybe buy an album or if it was a good week I could get 2. I would come home clean off my turntable blow on my needle and play the album once while I copied it onto a cassette tape and I would never play the actual album again... I mean never because it 2006, and I haven't played them. I have my stuff stored in my bedroom closet away from harm, I have everything from videos to mags, newspaper clippings, 45's ( U remember those),picture dics, large record store displays... I even have the armrest fron Radio City Music Hall (My 1st trip 2 New York to see Prince in early 90's "The Act or II Shows"... "My Name is Prince" era. So much stuff and I keep it all in special place around the house. My wife to be think that it funny I hear explaing when we have company, because the only visible Prince item I is this large poster from 1987's "Sign O' The Times" Tour ( yellow outfit with the black hat) hanging in my stairway... So U only see it when Ur coming down stairs. I love it. I believe that once a Prince Fan always Prince Fam... It's just times have progressed and the computers have become our record store and rather that closet we store everything om ur hard drive. Thank You for the trip down memory lane!
THINKTIMM... if nothing else!!!

biggrin

I have just begun the project of cleaning my basement. It will be the Music/instrument room. My wife has decided it's smells like a "basement". Fine by me! I'm going to organize and display my healthy vynil, CD, cassettes and DVD collection.
One thing I miss with the computer/cd collecting is album art. I saw a Parliment double LP the other day and it was hilarious. All the art, jokes and crazy shit.
I can't wait to dust of the LP's and play them. Maybe I'll start with my copy of Chocolate box.
